Emperor

a3oVKMj.png

Present

The city is dense, dangerous. Durant knows this. But cannot do anything about it. How is he sop posed to hold up to this responsibility! He's got a wife and two adopted kids now! The plague is always on his tail. "Damn things" he always said. "Uncivilized filth, useless filth." He had always shut his mouth when gone to far though. For he was keeping the peace. Not starting more war. The plague was coming, and he had to please them.

Past

Born in a hatchery, within the crystal city, Durant has no royal blood. Although his beauty often causes other dragons to call him ‘sir’, or ‘my lord’. This is due to the royal families being golden Coatls such as himself. He fits the physical description of a crystal lord perfectly, and this helped him with his job as an entertainer.

Durant was a street performer at times, a poet others. His elegant goldenrod skin and butterfly esque wings made the other dragons sway at every move he made when he performed his dances on the city streets. His poems were moving enough to make the other writers writhe in jealousy. Durant was hard working, and often trained other fledgling street performers for extra coin. Coin he needed, to feed himself and keep a roof over his head. The crystal city isn't a cheap place to live.

After a while Durant became enraged for Infernum his rival, a large extravagantly ruby red imperial had become the MUST see performer and Durant had become yesterday's news. Infuriated Durant began to entertain others with the “word” more regularly, and his work was not unnoticed.

Now dedicating all of his time in writing stories and poems, he had gotten way better than he was before, and he had gained a new following. Royals soon became interested with his poems about the lightweaver and his fictional stories of knights and kings. Exactly what he wanted. He had heard stories of famous poets and entertainers get elected into the royal courts to entertain. Poets who dedicated their time into flattering the royal courts through elegant poems of their beauty and greatness.

Durants plan to flatter the royal courts worked, and he soon became well known throughout the royal houses. Something his rival Infernum would never be able to do. Durant felt accomplished, like he had just seized his first castle. Soon he started wanting more. He wanted to flatter not just the royal courts, but the emperor himself. Luckily for Durant, he was about to get an offer that suited just that.

Durant had been offered a place in the royal palace. By a dragon known as Beatrice. Beatrice had been Durant’s biggest fan for quite a while. She had fallen in love with both his looks, and the way he weaved his words into pure art. So she decided that she would invite Durant into the royal palace. To become the royal court’s poet. Durant accepted as soon as he got her invitation letter, and moved into the royal court immediately.

After Durant moved in he was eager to learn more about Beatrice the dragon who had been gracious enough to invite him into the palace in the first place. Durant had decided to visit her in her chamber, and after that he repeatedly visited her daily. Durant was fascinated by Beatrice. The way she talked, the way she wrote, and most importantly the way she made him feel. Beatrice felt the same way about him as well, and soon they started truly loving each other.

Beatrice and Durant began wanting more for each other than daily visits to each other's quarters. But Beatrice being a royal and Durant not, her father simply wouldn't allow it. Durants only chance to marry Beatrice would be to earn her father's respect, and so he did. Durant, like always used his cunning words in his poems to manipulate Beatrice’s father into giving Durant his blessing. But just his blessing wasn't enough. He needed more. The full respect of the emperor.

A year of hard work had passed and Durant was nearly done earning the respect of the royal families and the emperor. The emperor was greatly fascinated by Durant. He was impressed by his intelligence, and had offered him a place as his personal scribe. Durant had all the qualifications for the job. The look of royalty, stunning intelligence, and the ability to cunningly manipulate words to portray true emotion and meaning. Something an emperor would need plenty of help with.

Under the wing of the emperor, Durant began to learn even more about politics and war, for he was the one writing the emperor's letters. For years he studied the royals and studied their game. Durant had become quite familiar with “the game”, and he played it well. Durant was soon promoted to the emperor's adviser, and had earned his own chair in the small council. A council entrusted only to the most loyal royals. The royals now saw Durant as a valuable ally, and as one of them, a royal.

Durant finally married Beatrice and together they planned to become the best they could be. They promised each other nothing would ever separate them. Not even the emperor. For the emperor now thought of Durant as family. His only family, for the emperor had no remaining family, for they all died of a plague years ago. Him being the only survivor.

After all the hardships they had overcome over the year that he had become partners, they had almost become the same blood. The emperor now trusted Durant more than anyone in the royal court, and so came the honor, of Durant being offered the next spot as emperor.

Shortly after Durant had become heir to the crystal throne, the empire had been struck by a deadly plague, then eventually war. A plagueling kingdom had went to war with the crystal throne over land that they wanted. They thirsted for power. After many battles the army of crystal had been defeated, and the plaguelings had reached the palace of crystal.

As the plaguelings breached the throne room door, three stood to protect the emperor. Durant, Ventus, and Drogon. Drogon being the empire's military commander and ventus being his second in command. Fourteen mirrors flooded the throne room hungry for the emperors blood. The three dragons fought valiantly, but had failed to protect the emperor. Two mirrors had broke through their line and slayed the emperor on his throne. Durant had been devastated. His mentor, father, friend, had been killed in front of him. Enraged the three dragons had fought and killed the remainder of the mirrors. But Drogons life was taken in the process. That night would never be forgotten, and the emperor would always be missed.

Being the only heir to the kingdom. Durant had been crowned as emperor, and Beatrice being his wife had become queen. Together under their reign they had destroyed the plagueling kingdom that had taken the emperor's life, and had brought peace to the kingdom once again.

Poems

Charming is his smile
Beauty and grace his attributes
To his cunning ways.

During times
Upon a threat
Righteousness is needed
And being cunning is his strength and sword
No one can resist his charms
The threat is no more.
