ORION (he / him)
the vulcan ranger
You should count yourself lucky if you come across this kindred spirit while wandering around Fellreach. Orion is friendly and always willing to lend a hand to a creature in need, but is quick to distrust you if he deems you suspicious. He is a good shot with a bow - which, combined with his elemental prowess, is how he earned the title of 'Vulcan Ranger.' His aged experience means this Coatl has a very good grasp over his firepower, meaning grave danger should you find yourself on the wrong side of his judgement.
"Washes the grave with silvery tears..."
Once this Coatl lived where the heart of Sornieth erupted forth. Those days are long over, brought to an end by a powerful hurricane that destroyed his home and family. He watched as they drowned in the tidal waves, horrified by the power opposite of his birth. He remembers the flames of life flicker out and extinguish in the rains.
He retains crystal clear memories of what happened, but has come to peace with the event. His family was a victim of poor fortune, and vengeance would bring him nothing.
"Between the salt water and the sea strand..."
Left as a late-adolescent, Orion joined the forces protecting the Ashfall Wastes from its enemies. Over his many years, he became a powerful and highly-held warrior, known for the lava-hot flames he spit forth from his mouth. It was no surprise when he was promoted to lead his own squadron, when the old commander was felled in a Serthis ambush. He became one of the most highly-respected leaders of the forces, leading his squadron for years with remarkable precision. They ventured all throughout the land, protecting the interests of the Wastes' inhabitants.
"Remember me to one who lives there..."
Orion, along with his squadron, was retired when relations with the neighbors of the land improved. His usefulness gone, he vowed to venture out and see what Sornieth had to offer him. Now middle-aged, he no longer held the youthfulness of a spry young dragon eager to explore the world. He ventured from place to place, becoming a bit of a loner after he realized his many years fighting made connecting to the other, civilian dragons difficult.
After some time, he found himself in the Scarred Wasteland, where he decided to stay for a spell. Here was a life reminiscent of the one he led in the forces, a way of living he was most comfortable with.
He remains in Fellreach to this day.

TRIVIA
Orion speaks in an unplaceable accent. (headcanoned to be a mix between Transatlantic English and Old Western-style English) Orion can sing quite well, and is a tenor. (best voice comparison would be Art Garfunkle) He also plays the lute. He can communicate quite well with all species of dragons, likely due to his vast experiences in his travels and years in the fighting forces. Enjoys a good drink. Normally carries some sort of hard drink on him. His favorite is spiced rum. The frog's name is Zollie, and the mock firebird's is Llewellyn. Very knowledgeable about field survival. An expert in natural foods and poisons. One of his favorite wild dishes are baked mushrooms served with wild spicy peppers, spiced and roasted nuts, and honey-glazed salted salmon. Like stated above, Orion is more than happy to help if something needs his help. He would never leave a dragon in need behind, and was a skilled healer as well as fighter. Orion is quite chivalrous, and treats all ladies with particular respect. This tends to land him in good standings with most she-dragons. His past with mates is not known, but it is certain he does not have any children. Orion has not been witnessed being involved with other dragons as of yet. Fairly good cook. Likes to make meals that remind him of calm nights in the forces. Orion is not a young dragon, and would likely fall between 44-48 years of age in human years. He is one of the oldest dragons in Fellreach that are native to Sornieth. Possibly due to his fighting years and age, Orion is not easily intimidated by dragons who claim to be millennia old, or claim to be godlike in power. His reactions are very tempered, and have an edge of clarity and due caution. He is not a fan of Emperors. He's seen some things in his days, and is inherently distrustful of the undead amalgamations that rise from the battlefields. Orion displays some signs of having PTSD, most likely from the years of brutal conflicts he has experienced. This dragon is one of the few in Fellreach that do not inhabit the actual cave. Orion much prefers the wind of the surface, and the sky far above. He wanders far and wide, but always returns home to Fellreach. Orion has no special powers beyond the elemental fire he claims as his birthright. It is very difficult to get Orion's temper to flare. He is very patient and very relaxed, and is not prone to impulsive reactions. As a retired soldier, he will not hesitate to initiate combat if it is the only viable option. He prefers to first attempt to solve a problem through other means, however. |

Orion is a very gentle soul, full of kindness and bravery. However, this is contradicted by his tendency to be emotionally detached from others. This dragon doesn't have many friends, and this is a direct consequence of him being so withdrawn. He never used to be this way, before he was in the fighting force for the Ashfall Waste. His experiences in the forces changed him, horrified him, and spit him back out with a heavy dose of guilt and self-hatred for some of the decisions he was forced to make while commanding his squadron.
Orion is a very brave individual, and will face any adversary with a calm collectedness characteristic of one who thinks quickly on his feet. He is not easily intimidated, and will fight for what he believes is right. He is not quick to judge a stranger, but will not disregard them either. Orion prefers to take everything as it comes, while being prepared for the unexpected.
Though he cares about things on the outside, Orion tends to be rather apathetic on the inside. This is due to deep depression also rooted from his time in the forces. He reacts and acts the way he knows he should feel, even if he doesn't actually feel it.
