Vatrolav knew very well that he wandered deep into the unknown territory. He was also aware that his father forbid him to leave, but listening to parents' countless rules isn't always easy, especially if you're a lonely ten-year-old growing up in a godforsaken limbo. So, Vatroslav filled his tiny satchel with food sneaked out from the cottage when his father returned to his mill and lithely slipped under the rusty, barbed fence.

The morning was chilly and young dragon shivered slightly while he was admiring the centennial pine forest. The fog's gentle fingers fondled the magnificent treetops. His walk through the tall, dewy grass, it seemed, lasted forever. The flaming orb already passed the zenith and dispersed strips of mist, when hatchling managed to catch the first glances of his final destination-the spiky pinnacle of dark towers looming on the horizon.

The Old City. The heart of ancient part of his village, Larrikin's Creek, was never rebuilt after the Summer Solstice Catastrophe. It was a sad, desolate patch of land, surrounded only by barbed wire and piercing silence. And, still, the heart of young urban explorer thrilled in front of that unknown, new location, filled with inexplicable flurry of pride. Like his life depended from it, Vatroslav rushed in direction of the old city's core.

The ancient paving stone beneath his feat was conquered by the tangled, sapless looking weed. The crumbling structures gradually started ascending around Vatroslav, as he was nearing the center. The fang of time visibly harmed once divinely decorated facades. Most buildings were now roofless and decorative statues that used to adorn their doors and portals were sadly scattered in the yellow grass. Even the seven famous, slender towers looked sullen and worthless, although their metal spikes still spitefully shimmered under the blazing sun. The young dragon aimlessly wandered through the abandoned corridors, both terrified and enchanted at the same time. The absolute silence was only occasionally interrupted by painful soliloquy of the wind, howling through the streets.

Vatroslav realized that he didn't know where is the gateway, only when scarlet rays of setting sun painted the scenery in macabre, crimson colors. The panic in his heart rapidly grew and tiny Spiral desperately sprinted through the crooked alleyways. The colors of the sky were fading, and wailing of the wind was becoming more sinister and louder. The terrified hatchling realized that those cries didn't belong only to the squally southeastern wind...Some invisible creatures sobbed and threaten from inside the buildings, paralyzing the lost hatchling's tense muscles.

And when the curtain of night finally fell, Vatrolsav had to sign an unwanted pact, the pact that chained him to the Old City for next fifteen years, until...

The times are changing.

He started repeating that single line fairly often; every morning when he would observe the small, crowded alleyway underneath his window. Two flaring red eyes could be seen scrutinizing the colorful chaos bellow, through the stained, rotund window of a tiny, inconspicuous, stone building.

Fortunately for them, the loud crowd would never notice the strange shadow constantly looming over them. Miners, merchants, con artists-when gold rush infected the area, they brought life once again in the forgotten dead city.

Fools.

One of the dragon from the crowd managed to catch the red glint on blurry pane. The white Skydancer's eyes focused on Vatroslav's flaming rubies for a moment. The enigmatic, small smile appeared on her face, a moment before the thick curtain lowered over the window.
