|| BackgroundOceana is only one of many, many dragons hatched in the domain of the Stormcatcher, intended for the great legions of the Lightning Flight's exalted armies. She was trained in her home clan on the Wiretangle Walk, pushed to the limit in order to get to the exalting pillar even faster, desperate for an escape. It was only pure chance that kept Oceana from her fate— a talent and passion for art, which her supervisors noticed and presented to the clan leaders. After discussing the pros and cons of exalting her, Oceana was allowed to remain on Sornieth.
Though she was grateful to be given the chance to flex her wings outside of service to her deity, Oceana was almost immediately pushed into creating blueprints for bigger and better machines. She was good at it, but the work ate her from the inside out. Her true passions lay with visual art; of the shapes of nature and dragons, and with every new blueprint she drafted the more her heart ached for a more freeing kind of art. Eventually, she could take it no longer. Calling in favors from around the clan, Oceana used the help from her friends to flee the Shifting Expanse forever, and start a new life.
Gleefully wandering from place to place, Oceana honed her craft whilst traveling with whoever would allow her to accompany them. It didn't take long for her skill to become well-known, and suddenly, dragons wanted to buy her art wherever she went. She traveled extensively in the Ashfall Waste and Sunbeam Ruins, peddling art and doing work for clans; traces of her art are scattered all across the regions.
Eventually, Oceana was invited to the Cloudsong, where a rich clan wanted her to design and paint a series of ostentatious kites for the upcoming Mistral Jamboree. There, she met a young scribe by the name of Usha, and the two almost immediately fell in love. She was only supposed to be there for the holiday, but stayed much longer to get to know the Skydancer, culminating in their marriage on a moonlit night.
Now with a husband whom she loved dearly, Oceana found herself desiring a family; something she hadn't really considered before. The two talked about it and agreed that they did not want to settle on the ever-shifting Cloudsong. News of Rara Avis, a growing clan, crossed their paths through Usha's postal office, and Oceana was instantly inspired. It didn't take long for the pair to pack their bags and call an airship to the Starfall Isles, where they nested several clutches together.
|| CurrentA creative force like Oceana simply cannot be stopped, even when she's settled down. She has converted the den she shares with Usha into an artists' studio, and is constantly changing the murals and tapestries she's made there; it's a common saying that Oceana has a new piece for every season! Her skill and history of travelling have brought many an old friend to the doors of Rara Avis and have established some of their most important relationships.
There is nothing more that Oceana likes than being able to spend time with her husband while she works. She finds that he tempers her excitable disposition and despite their extreme differences, the two are as in love as the day she confessed her feelings to him. They have decided to stop nesting, but Usha makes sure that Oceana remembers to send her children letters, which she does with great gusto. She loves her family dearly, though she can be rather forgetful.
Recently, Oceana has taken on her first protégé— the young Skydancer Galatea. She's never really taught before, and is trying to figure it out by ear, to mixed results. It's different than raising a hatchling, and she hopes that she can give her apprentice a good start on her career. At least, Galatea seems to appreciate having time and space to work, and really, isn't that how Oceana learned herself? She's sure the Skydancer will turn out fine. After all, she's got real talent!

|| Notes◈ Oceana is in her late forties.
◈ The gold on her wings and scales are actual plating inset by a talented Earth magi she met during her travels. However, the patterns on her wing membranes are simply dyes. She got the nose ring during a party on the Cloudsong.
◈ Oceana has been caring for Beryl for several years, and adopted the chipskink from a familiar market in Lanternlea Port. He shares her excitable, eager nature, and she often lets him run around her den freely.
◈ Alusair, the Matriarch of the Radiant Sect, is one of Oceana's oldest friends and even an old flame of hers. The two spent some time traveling together when they were both young, and Oceana gifted her several portraits during this time. They are now penpals.
◈ Due to her childhood, Oceana has a great distaste for the Stormcatcher and anyone devoted to him. She actively eschews devoting any time to any deity, but the Stormcatcher in particular is completely rejected by her, and she gets uncomfortable around anything in his honor or name.
