They found the statue deep in the catacombs under the ruined city, buried beneath a caved in part of a tunnel. Still wrapped in protective lining and covered in cobwebs it stood there, abandoned for unknown reasons. Heavy, enchanted chains dangled from its wings, covering parts of the wings with frost. Marks on the ground suggested it had been dragged there with great difficulty and buried on purpose. But why?

She was standing on her hind legs and her delicate stone wings were half extended, as if she was frozen in mid-movement, eternally preserved just the moment before taking off. They examined the elegant features for clues, but the stone face and glittering gemstone eyes did not reveal any of her secrets and no one could remember hearing anything about a dragon like this.

A heated debate broke out among the explorers on whether they should bring her back up to the surface with them or respect the forgotten clan that once buried her and leave her where they found her. For a while there was nearly a fight in the group before they finally settled on tossing a coin. Heads for taking her with them and tails for leaving her. The coin was still in the air, glinting in the light of the torches as it spun around, when one of the explorers very quietly asked:

"Didn't the statue cover its eyes before...?"
