That was a focal part of their speech to Heulog, who welcomed them with open, indulgent arms. What Lavrenti failed to mention, however, was that they were not a healer of Dragons. The very thought of examining and possibly even operating on someone was so vehement to them that they physically could not bring themself to do it. It was from this admission that they were guided towards Yusra, whose work with the bestiary was starting to get too much to handle, though she would not admit it. Working alongside each other was a revelation to both of them - Yusra, though younger, was a figure to look up to; and Lavrenti was a much needed presence that kept Yusra grounded. It also helped that Lavrenti was a lot larger, so was often relegated to wrangling beasts of all sizes. They surprisingly don't find that element too unnerving, and Rainier offered a new design of armour to help protect them from the inevitable teeth and claws. As the clan grew bigger, more adventurous, and therefore more knowledgeable, it dawned upon Lavrenti that maybe they could set up a sanctuary or home for wayward animals. They ran this idea past Yusra, who wholeheartedly agreed, and their idea came to fruition when the clan moved to their final place in the shadow of the Beacon. As it was, life was satisfying in a way that Lavrenti never though possible. It grew brighter still when they met Tyr. He was a guardsman for the Royalty, and enjoyed visiting the animal sanctuary during his free time. From conversations and lengthy walks, they realised that the two of them together were compatible. It took them by surprise, and suspected that maybe Tyr felt the same way... Yet the idea of being... Intimate with another was something that made their breath tighten in their throat, and a sense of wrongness settle over them like a damp blanket. After months, Tyr approached them about the matter, declaring in his own way that he adored them, and Lavrenti almost rejected him outright, but something made them hesitate... Long enough to hear Tyr admit his own reluctance about mating, and confession that perhaps he never would feel that urge. Lavrenti could have wept, and from them poured their misgivings about the whole subject. To say Tyr was pleasantly surprised was an understatement, and they both came to an agreement that if they were to start a relationship, then 'Mate' was a title that did not fit them. 'Partner' was perfect.  |
