The Mute Courier
Plant: Dumb Cane
Story: While Stellan may have been born from two Wildclaws, his true caretaker was a lovely female Guardian who had taken his egg as her Charge. The youngest Guardian in her family to take a charge, Nyx was only a hatchling as well when she stumbled across the Wildclaws and their nest of three. Two eggs were guarded closely, but one had rolled into a patch of dumb cane (and had clearly been there for awhile). The Wildclaws simply couldn't afford to take care of a third hatchling, so Nyx's parents offered to take the egg for them. Stellan hatched into a family of Guardians, loving and protective, even though Stellan had been born mute. Like the plant his coloration was derived from, ingestion of his blood is incredibly toxic, temporarily passing muteness on to his attacker. Nyx learned how to understand what Stellan wanted to say without words, and the pair grew inseparable.

They wandered the jungle together, searching for a clan to call home. Blossoming in each other's company, Stellan and Nyx learned many invaluable skills out in the Wilds, but their happiness did not last. One night, shortly after the pair had settled down to sleep, they were ambushed by the Talonok for invading their territory. While they battled fiercely, they couldn't hope to hold off the horde, and in their attempt to flee, Nyx was brought down. Though Stellan attempted to rescue her, she was slain before his very eyes, and the Wildclaw was forced back. Distraught and alone, he disappeared into the depths of the jungle, mourning his closest friend.

Stellan struggled after the loss of Nyx. He gradually started to lose the will to fight, and that made him increasingly careless. A week after Nyx was slain, he was attacked by a lone dragon. Though he fought back at first, their battle was interrupted by a familiar Guardian, who drove the other dragon back. Before Stellan was Nyx, whole and uninjured. However, when he tried to nuzzle his beloved friend, his muzzle went right through her. For although it was truly Nyx standing before him, only her spirit was able to remain, determined to protect her Charge, even through death. She encouraged him to live, and promised him that he would never be alone. Though the Guardian was not always visible, she remained as a protective presence over him, providing comfort and companionship.

Soon, Stellan stumbled across Hidden Hollow. With Nyx acting as his voice, he was able to explain his situation to Vera. He was eagerly welcomed into the small clan, jokingly called Ghost by his fellow members. He and Nyx swiftly became a valuable asset to the clan, especially as a courier. With Nyx as a guide, Stellan could arrive at any destination to deliver a message (often scribed on paper or in stone), and the clan could rest easy knowing that Nyx would not allow anything to happen to him. The drake is known for his desperate need to help, and often assists the other members with their tasks when not needed to deliver any messages.
