❀ Species Profile ❀

Extinct Tyrannosaurus rex was a theropod dinosaur who lived in a variety of North American habitats during the late Cretaceous period in North America. Our best understand of why they went extinct is that extreme amounts of volcanism in what is now India, in combination with the impact of a large meteor that struck the Earth in what is now the Gulf of Mexico, resulted in changes in climate that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. I am very hopeful that at some point we will have the ability to bring them back from extinction. ;)

Fun Fact: T. rex had a brain about twice as large as other dinosaurs, suggesting that it might have been more intelligent, with better vision and sense of smell, than its fellow dinosaurs.

❀ Biography ❀

Tyra arrived at Owlwood in April, 2014, being one of the very first dragons to make OwlWood her home (along with Thalassi, Callidry, Eugenie, and Athera). She felt instantly at home here, and has no plans to ever move away. After living at OwlWood for more than a year, Tyra finally decided upon a new name for herself. Formerly known as Balzare, she chose to proclaim her affinity with the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex. A fitting name, as Tyra is one of the protectors of the clan, and a fierce, fearsome warrior. Very bitey, but only towards enemies. To her clanmates, she is always friendly and gentle, especially to the hatchlings. She like to knit things for them - little hats and scarves and gloves and things (even though knitting is something of a challenge, given her tiny arms).

❀ Orca Subspecies Lore by Merellia ❀

Dragons with Orca traits are intensely social and fierce. Often counted among the best of their clan’s fighters, these dragons prefer to hunt with groups of their peers. One almost never sees an Orca as a solo trainer in the Mire, for example; they find isolation from others—even when in charge of young dragons—too isolating, and are much more content when hunting as a pack. In such groups, the eldest (or fiercest) female often takes charge, and Orcas consider the strongest hunting packs to be those with a trio of mother and daughters at their core.

Gregarious and predisposed to strong pair bonds, Orca dragons enjoy physical affection, and often express their appreciation with a gentle nip or raking of teeth. Hatchlings are among the most playful in their clans, not only tussling with each other in wriggling tangles, but endlessly curious and demanding of stimulation. Young Orcas may be predisposed to wander, striking off for the most solitary adventure of their lives until they find a new clan.
