Chekov the Wiz-Kid AUTHORIZATION CODE NOT RECOGNIZED Theme: Hella Bar Talk |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Mere gestured impatiently at the Tundra. “Yeah, yeah, uh, Tundra wiz-kid—what was your name?” If anyone had been paying attention, they would have seen Radek roll his eyes. “Chekov,” the Tundra answered, trotting along dutifully behind his new mentor. Radek’s heart went out to the kid. If Radek ever had children he could no longer care for for whatever reason, he would make sure to leave them under the care of a more tolerable guardian. “Chekov, great, yeah,” Mere snapped. “Did you just hatch three days ago or something?” Looking hurt, Chekov glanced at Radek. “No. I’m sorry. Um. What?” Apparently, just because Radek had known Mere forever, he was supposed to understand what he meant. Radek offered a helpless shrug and a smile. They were in this together, now. “How old are you—what was it again? Cherpov?” Mere asked. The yellow Tundra’s eyes brightened. “Chekov. Seventeen, sir.” “Seventeen.” Mere shot Radek a sarcastic glare. “Oh, good. He’s seventeen. Why did you agree to this?” “Me?” Radek stood indignantly. “It wasn’t my idea. But it’s not a bad one.” Radek looked at Chekov. “Don’t mind him. He gets grouchy when he hasn’t eaten.” Chekov gave a sage nod. “Ah.” Everyone became silent for a while, maybe giving Mere time to think about what he was doing with his life. Chekov suddenly smiled and pointed at a nearby trinket with the Lightning Flight emblem on it. “Did you know those were invented by a little old lady in the Everbloom Gardens?” |

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
|
Chekov is the wunderkind of Mere’s merry band of misfits… as if they needed another one. It’s just that genius-level Tundras are so hard to find. While Mere and Radek lean toward discovery and synthesis of ancient technologies, Chekov is hardwired to explore and create things new. His family recognized his genius when he was small and set out to find a better life for him than the one they had on the border between Nature and Plague. When they met Mere and Radek on the Tidelord’s beaches, it was an answer to their prayers. Mere agreed that Chekov could come to learn as long as he didn’t prove to be “insufferably stupid.” Direct quote. And, he didn’t. Chekov’s parents went on their way, presumably happy that their boy was in good paws. Like Radek, Chekov is willing to try anything new, but everything he touches rather turns to gold. Everyone seems to like him, probably because he’s still young, even if a little awkward. His enthusiasm can’t be beat, and neither can his skill at taking a bunch of junk, stripping them down to parts, and making something else entirely new and different. Unlike his employers, Chekov fits in uncommonly well with the other dragons of the Tempest Chase, perhaps most surprisingly Merle, Abbey, and Magina. Even though they don’t quite scratch the surface of intelligence, he envies their easy friendship with one another and admires their exciting jobs. In turn, they enjoy his sense of humor and out-of-the-box thinking. Chekov is a Nature dragon by birth. Though he considers himself a Water dragon by culture, a Lightning dragon by choice, and a Wind dragon by employment, he assigns all manner of discoveries and interesting facts, true or not, to the Glademotherland. Since he’s been so many places and doesn’t always remember social norms, he is a source of never-ending amusement in which he gamely participates. He’s good in a pinch for holding down the fort while Mere and Radek are off exploring, and he is surprisingly good at roughing it in the wilderness. And, if worse comes to worst and Mere and Radek manage to fix themselves in a bind, he can be seen pelting through the camp, screaming, “I can do that; I can do that!" |
━━ familiar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Enterprise is a quick little creeper that's perfectly suited to traveling long distances, assessing a situation, and returning to report. Enterprise is essentially Chekov's little explorer. She is very useful, too, for exploring ahead of him in dark ruins for valuable technological artifacts, since she is surprisingly resilient to any known method of destruction. He loves her and makes sure she is in good repair, and brooks no insults against his Enterprise. Even when she crashes into things. And defies the laws of physics. And forgets all the most important directives. |
━━ tundra herd ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Since Chekov was very young, he’s been looking up to Mere as more-or-less a father. Honestly, most of the time it’s less. Mere isn’t a very good father figure, and he never had much motivation to try at it. Now that Chekov is no longer a young and enthusiastic seventeen-year-old, he’s a much older and enthusiastic scientist that contributes to the team. |
Where Mere is a terrible father-figure, Radek is somewhat better. He is, after all, a father. Radek also has very little trouble (if any) understanding Chekov through his accent. |
