"That book is more history than biography. Let me recatalog it." Ix is quite shy and can usually be found lurking in some corner of the library when she is not busy cataloging the clan's vast collection. She originally hailed from the Southern Icefield and traveled to the Starfall Isles when Ez invited her to join the coatl colony he had founded. Her friendship with the more boisterous male is an odd one, but she relied on him when growing up to speak to others on her behalf and has long valued his presence even when Ez exasperates her. Coatl were greatly discriminated against in their home of Sevenbranch due to the breed's origins in the land of fire and the fact that they had their own language. Ix was too intimidated to go to the library to get a book, as both librarians and library patrons sneered at the idea of a coatl able to read common draconic and tormented her the few times she was desperate enough to venture there. Instead she lived off the books Ez brought her from his school. Now she is surrounded by more books than she can ever read, and nobody judges her for who or what she is. Though Ix is reserved to the point of being antisocial (and her only friend other than Ez, the secretary Saya, is arguably as antisocial as she is), the guardian Edlyn was persistent in her courtship. She had no idea why a beautiful princess might be interested in a drab, quiet coatl such as herself, but she enjoyed reading side by side with Edlyn and discussing books with her and also could not deny the spark of passion she felt, so she finally gave in to the guardian's advances and moved into her lair, where they dwell in comfortable companionship, each driven to excel in their own areas of expertise but content in their relationship with each other. |
