Rays of hazy sunshine hit my pelt as I walked through my clan. I greeted everyone I could on my way to my workshop, and before I realized, I bumped against the door of it. Stumbling back, I let out a short laugh and stumbled inside. I looked to and from in my workshop, proud of how great inventions that filled up. Smiling, I walked up to my most recent invention. I had no idea how to name it..

Machine Doodad? The Matrix? Maybe the Arcane Gizmo? Actually, the first one might be the easiest to say..

I shook my head with my muddling thoughts, I’ll have to decide later. Getting to work, I adjusted some loose bolts there, rewired a few things that needed to be touched up, and other stuff I did everyday. I didn’t put much work into it before I was cut off by a sudden snarl and a yelp that I heard outside.

Eyes widening, I run to the door as fast I can. I bash the door open only to see DiamondTooth teeth-deep into some crocodile, dragging it away as it snarled ferociously. I didn’t think much as I blindly rushed to the other Tundra laying on the floor.

“U-um?! Mam? Are you okay?” I shook her as gently as I could and soon enough, her eyes met mine. Chuckling weakly, the lady hooked her paws onto my shoulder, “I’ll be fine..”

I shook my head and helped her get up. I let her ride my back as we walked into the medic tent. DiamondTooth was already there, preparing healing herbs and other antidotes.

I lay her gently onto the leafy floor and shook her more, a frown overcoming my face. I shifted from foot to foot as I watched the medic slowly prepare stuff, biting my lip anxiously. I looked down on the Tundra, worry growing in the pit of my stomach. “H-hey um.. Are you going to be okay? H-how are you feeling?” I quickly said.

She looked at me for a few moments, a strange look in her mystic, ice-blue eyes. “Don’t worry about me too much,” she smiled, pausing on the intensity of my own eyes, “I think I’ll be fine as long as you stay here.”

I stuttered out something intelligible, and before I said anything else embarrassing. I settled down next to the other Tundra. Hours went by as I waited patiently beside this Tundra, and finally DiamondTooth dismissed her. She got up slowly and walked outside. She just sat there, probably enjoying the breeze.

I got up rather frantically, still worried. I sat beside her, but not too close.

“S-so how are you feeling?” I fumbled.

“I’m feeling great, actually! But I have to go soon and watch over the nursery again, the hatchlings will be missing my stories.” Once again, I watched a smile grew on her.

I found myself smiling too as she got up to leave. Before getting too far, she turned around and spoke to me one last time. “Oh, and my name is Bumble!” She said happily. I watched as she walked the nursery, but I found myself rushing to follow Bumble.

She was quite the bumble of happiness, I thought.

In the far-off crags and peaks of the Crystalspine Reaches, or so it is told, there lived a tundra dragon named Toxic with the other dragons of his Clan.

Though he dwelt in the Reaches, he was both like and unlike many of the dragons that one would see in the lands of the Arcanist; unlike them, his eyes were not deep pink but a pleasant green that spoke of a life lived in the domain of the laughing god, the Windsinger.

But like them, he possessed a sharp mind, a keen focus, and above all a thirst for knowledge that would have matched even the most studious of the Arcanist's children.

He was a tinkerer, a collector of gears and trinkets and an extremely apt inventor.

And though some in the Clan recalled that he once, long ago, had a magnificent piebald coat, Toxic's pelt was now a curiously patterned mix of green, brown and cream.

He would not speak of how this came to be, and some near him whispered (after seeing the Amaranth moth that followed him everywhere like a shadow) that it must be some blessing, a sign of approval from the Arcanist.

Now in Toxic's Clan there was another dragon, a female tundra named Bumble.

Like Toxic she was also not originally of the Arcane lands, as all could see by the hue of her eyes—a strange pale shade they were, clear and colorless like glass.

A more careless dragon might have dismissed them as plain and uninteresting—but this would be a foolish dragon indeed, for Bumble was truly one of the most caring dragons that Toxic had ever met. When she loved, she loved with all her heart, with a quiet sort of intensity that astounded him; but despite this he was afraid to approach her, and for a long time did not speak the thoughts that were in his heart.

But he could not put it off forever, and eventually Toxic began thinking about how to best approach this dragon that he had come to admire so much.

Toxic was an inventor; when something broke or went missing the dragons of his Clan went to him, and soon he would fix it.

He was a tinkerer who delighted in creating something new and beautiful out of a clutter of gears and sprockets that other dragons might dismiss as a mess.

But it was in this moment that his creativity seemed to freeze; for he wanted to make something wonderful for Bumble to show her his appreciation, to express what his stammering words could not. And now he was thoroughly stuck.

Toxic took to his workshop whenever he found the time, assembling and disassembling the gears and parts that used to come together so easily but now were an enigma to him. What to make? What to do? All his life he had never experienced such difficulty. He thought of how Bumble had looked as she had returned to the nursery, the way she had turned and smiled at him and how his heart had soared. What could he make that would measure up? Suddenly all his skill seemed like it would not be enough.

It was quite a few days later that Toxic received a visitor to his workshop. There was the sound of footsteps and the sound of a door opening, and Toxic looked up, quite startled, to see Bumble peering in at him, the sunlight hitting her fur.

"Excuse me," she said. "But may I come in?"

Toxic nodded dumbly. He briefly wished he had tidied up, or taken the time to groom—but it was too late, and Bumble was in his workshop, and he felt at once both thrilled and terrified.

"I noticed," said Bumble, "that you looked tired lately. And you've been in here for longer than usual." she peered at him, her eyes even more pale and lovely behind her glasses. "Are you working on something?"

"Y-yes." said Toxic.

"Can I see?" she said eagerly.

"Well," said Toxic, very much wishing he had something to give her. "I-I haven't quite—I haven't finished it yet, I'm afraid," he said. "It's taken me a while a-and I just can't get it done."

"Oh." Bumble paused. "Why not?"

"I don't know if it'll ever be good enough," said Toxic, who felt like sinking into the floor.

"What's it for?"

"It's for you," said Toxic, and realized his mistake. Bumble's head jerked up and she stared at him with wide eyes. He had never felt so embarrassed.

"I-I'm so s-sorry," he said. "I—I wanted to make you something, but I can't get it right. I wanted it to be perfect. B-but it can't match up to you, or what you do for everyone. I tried. I'm sorry." and he would have said more, would have spent more time trying to fix the situation with his faltering words had Bumble not gently rested her paw on his.

"Thank you," she said, and he was astonished at the flustered look in her eyes. "But you've already made me so happy."
