........Found by Anrothan during a scavenging trip. Freja had long been discarded by her warrior clan for bones shattered during training.

Years later she uses what she's learned in the camps and from her mentors to protect her family, raised with Koroviev as siblings, and lavished with attention by Anrothan and the newly reborn Madhavi. She's outfitted with a halberd and dagger by Rega, adorned with enchanted armor by her adoptive mother, and her training completed by Krevadia.

Fall
........At first Anrothan mistook her for a sea otter, ducking out from beneath a shard of bleached coral to scavenge through a pile of empty shells. She was cradling the dried remains of a decayed fishtail and greedily crunched through, shaking with hunger. A wave lapped at the heap, scattering some of the shells and casting a blue-green tint on her dull scales. For a moment in his eyes she was only jade and shadow, mimicking the color of his long-dead children. Blinking it away, he decided he couldn't leave her and swooped down to pick her up. His pack may have been heavy with ingredients, but by her looks she wouldn't be much of a burden.

For the months before he arrived, she'd subsisted on shellfish and rotten scraps, learning to load up on dried seaweed. She wasn't great at fishing, but rifled through the rocky shore for the rare seabird egg. But during winter the tide had pulled close to her shelter, the wind lashed down her small store of food and stole any warmth she had left. The giant roc's that circled the area favored the cover of dark to hunt, so she barely slept save for a couple of hours in the morning.

It wasn't more than a week into the new season before she caught a cold, and she fought to stay alive until the spring. She saw it as the Plaguebringer attacking, while the Tidelord many times gifted her with washed up bits of food, within her first days revealing the coral shelter she called home. Even the great waves that beat the walls of the cliffside curiously never seemed to touch her, rather swirling before her in what seemed to be a small newly-formed tidepool. Before long she was able to scoop up a scattering of silver fish that unwittingly darted in.

The year prior had been incredible. Her parents celebrated her entrance into the exalted camps with a group hunt, which she led for the first time. Even without years of experience, she was paraded around as a naturally gifted fighter, born long and lean with smaller wings rather than needing them clipped. Announced as the most promising trainee during her first year at the camps, she couldn't have imagined her fall.

What was supposed to be a routine sparring match with a friend had ended brutally. After existing too long in her shadow her partner snapped, coming for blood rather than a warm up. It began with dodge practice.

At first she had evaded him easily, lazily spinning out of his grip and parrying with her tail. He became infuriated by the onlookers, who wouldn't stop giggling at his every misstep. She could see he needed help, but he was too arrogant to ask. She parried once more, barely looking at him. He tripped this time, smashing his neck and shoulder into the dirt. Rather than dodge her next hit, he snapped onto her tail, unable to let go once he broke through skin. Freja yelled and tried to pull away, confused. He sunk his teeth deeper as she moved, hitting bone. She clawed at his neck, forcing him to let go, only to shred through her exposed wing.

They whipped around each other as a singular cyclone, forcing everyone else to back away. It had taken his cheap shots for both to be evenly matched, and he was looking for another opening. Intrigued, more students crowded around the two. She struck out with her hind legs, finding his ribs and sending him rolling away.

For the span of a breath she looked to the crowd that had circled her. She found no friends. They were only spectators, watching for weakness, calculating each opponent's breaking point, moves, speed, power. What had felt like such a blessed position felt overwhelmingly like a curse. She could see no matter how hard she trained, one day she would be old, slower, weaker. And there would always be a dragon to usurp her. Everyone she knew worshiped the most fearsome, the one with the highest enemy kills. She was raised to value death. And suddenly, in the moment before her best friend closed his jaws around her neck, she decided not to be one of them. She shut her eyes just before contact, sending her plummeting into darkness.

While knocked out, her broken tail and torn wing ruined her in the eyes of her mentors, quickly agreeing her lack of will to be her greatest weakness and abandoning her just as fast. Her friend was given a slap on the wrist for going too far, while from then on she was seen as broken and unfit for battle. In everyone's eyes, she wasn't worthy of being brought to the infirmary. Before she woke, a trio of trainees were burdened with the task of dumping her off the cliffs.

"Those who accept defeat must then accept the Plaguebringer," one recited. "May your decay feed greater things."

Her eyes opened at that, and just as her wings caught the ocean breeze she fell to the sea below. Both wings opened, her entire right side clenching in agony when the wing stretched too far, ripping her wounds a bit further. She crashed into the ocean. The shock of cold sharpened her senses and after a moment, broke the surface to paddle gently to land.

She found they had cast her to the shoreline between the plaguelands and ocean, submitting her life to the will of the gods. The sharp drop of the cliff pinned her to the unforgiving sea, with only a few meters of pebbled land to separate them.

By the time she was found by Anrothan, she was too frail to do anything but nip at his claws a bit in weak protest as he brought her to the safety of the mangroves. He didn't even notice, with his head full of recipe ideas, curious what her favorite colors were, even planning her room. He wondered everything aloud to no one in particular. She listened for as long as she could. Yet, the kindness in his voice was so foreign, the lack of pain from his grip so confusing, she slipped into sleep before they arrived.
