Personality: Maloney is a serious, quiet and rather reserved individual. Descendant of a long line of Faded dragons, dedicated servants of the Lightweaver, Maloney carries the weight of responsibility from his ancestors, making him a very studious individual. He gets easily startled or embarrassed when he is shown affection, prompting more outgoing dragons to tease him. Still a bit young, he has a lot of knowledge but is a bit naive. Physique: Maloney is rather small and light for an imperial. His faint colors allow him to camouflage against the rocks of the Sunbeam Ruins. Affected by his nature, the tip of his wings and claws is growing transparent, gradually letting light rays shine through.
Maloney comes from a large clan in the Sunbeam Ruins, completely dedicated to the reigning deity, the Lightweaver. Growing up, Maloney followed an education revolving around serving the light goddess. This shaped him into a strong believer, an individual who has great respect and fear for all the gods and would never consider pledging allegiance to anyone besides the Lightweaver. He considers himself one of her servants first and foremost. In addition to being a child of the light, Maloney is part of the subspecies of the Faded, and as such is naturally a peaceful dragon. Deciding to follow the tradition in his bloodline, Maloney trained to become a messenger. This training mainly focused on improving his stamina and his communication skills, as to deliver bad news in the least impacting way. He started accompanying his clan's official messenger on some of his missions, observing quietly, learning. Never did he question the path that had been set out for him, not even conceiving how different his life could've been. When his parents were granted the honor of serving directly under the Lightweaver's order, Maloney set out to leave the clan and find a new home. While he knew that he too would eventually be exalted, he first wished to better himself, as to be worthy of his deity - or so he taught himself. He had been conditioned to follow this train of thought his whole life, and still quite young, he believed in to be the only option, the only right way of thinking. However, buried deep in him subsisted the wish to live for himself, to learn more of the world, to experience more aspects of life. But unable to accept this reality, Maloney had to convince himself that if he didn't rejoin his parents and deity yet, it wasn't for such selfish reasons. While holding a lot of theoretical knowledge, Maloney had never had the occasion to put it into action. He soon realized that the world was quite different from what he knew of it. After a couple days, he was taken by surprise by a clan of thieves and deprived of his most prized possessions. Startled by the attack, Maloney had been too late to react. Following this, he came to the conclusion that he could either hunt for himself, which he had never done and knew nothing off, or buy food. Not owning any money, he settled for hunting. As an imperial, he had size and strength on his size - but unfortunately, not knowing the hunting spots or how to sneak on prey, he soon came to the conclusion that he had to find an alternative. For some time, he worked as a temporary scribe, only sticking around for short period of times and a few pieces of writing. During that time, he started regretting his choice and wondering if maybe he had been foolish by following his heart. He had believed that life would be kinder. He took the habit of sunbathing in the ruins whenever he felt down, which is where he met Ihaia. She was sculpting a copy of a particularly old and brittle relief, and because of Maloney's colors, she didn't notice him. Intrigued by her work, he got closer to her, eventually startling her. His curiosity got the better of him and he ended up keeping her company as she worked quietly. When night fell, Johanna came over to see Ihaia. Noticing the new dragon, she became defensive and asked him what he was doing here. He had to lie and change his story a bit; he told them he was an experienced messenger currently looking for a new clan to serve. He came off as more desperate than he had hoped, and Johanna accepted to take him in, even if for now she had no use for a messenger. Maloney learnt to create a use for him: he allowed foreign dragons to communicate with their home clans and for exchange of knowledge to take place. He also makes sure relations with surrounding clans remain good. |
