Sudreth
Meaning of name unknown.
The Fate | Seer | Astral Sprite

"It is your choice how your book was written."

Mate: Argus and Kalmin

Personality:
He likes to face challenges on his own, which both of his lovers strongly disapprove such behaviour. Unlike most of the seers who regard themselves above all else, he likes mingling with other, gossiping, and matchmaking.

Title:
The Fate.
He can see paths of individuals’ destinies. He cannot directly change anything, nor tell anyone about their fate openly. What he does is to guide the league towards the best possible future, one step at a time.

"Thank you." —— From Argus.
...

1.
"This might be an honor." Sudreth believed this most of the time.

He felt like he had finished living his life the moment he broke from his egg. "Who would be born must first destroy a world."(1)

Astral Sprites have something that is different. They called it their "natural gift", their connection to stars. Every Astral Sprite had their own star, they were born at the same time and would die at the same time.

This was not the only thing Astral Sprite were differ from others, there was something more... the eyes that see the truth - he could see traces of time, he saw them on every object that is in his sight. He saw them grow, change, evolve, and pass away. Fate is always changing. What he sees was only one possibility out of infinity. Everything else was blurred.

Sudreth never thought to enhance his ability, he knew he was not the only Astral Sprite who could see time, not the only one who could tell the future. To be honest, his prediction had no significant use - like skimming through the ending on the last page of a book, he could do nothing except thinking, "this might lead to this conclusion..."

Argus was with him. "You are good. You can predict tomorrow's weather and fortune and tell us whether we should go hunting or not. Don't be addicted to and rely on your ability." Argus was known as the clan's protector. When they met for the first time, Sudreth saw infinite possibilities on Argus. The enormous amount of traces made him dizzy.

"Your future is very... complex.
Like haystacks."

Argus rarely showed his smiles, but he did to this pretty boy with pretty magenta eyes. "Sure, young man." He patted Sudreth on his shoulder with his paw, "My past is complex too."

2.
Sudreth would always mock Argus for his dry sense of humour. In return, Argus would give him a straight face and roll his eyes.

"Argus, why don't you ever ask me to tell your future?"

"Because that's pointless."

"What if I can make myself stronger, and see more clearly?"

"The Truth is the most cunning businessman, you need to sacrifice something in order to gain something of the equivalent value. 'Equivalent exchange', you never know what the Truth wants." (2)

Sudreth did not like his tone, like someone who patronises others by using their advantage of seniority.

3.
If Kalmin did not exist, Sudreth probably would have been the same way and lived the same way, until he died peacefully. He swore he was not envious of Kalmin, that he was not envious of the fact that Argus paid more attention to Kalmin. He never thought it would be shocking if Argus found a mate. This was something that would surely happen. If not tomorrow, then in future.

However, Sudreth felt pain deep in his bones. He could not sleep at night because his soul heard noises of flipping wings. He could not distinguish the traces on Kalmin even though he tried hard. He wanted to tell Argus about his worries of the flapping sounds, but he was afraid and did not know where to start. The noises he heard through his soul were coming stronger and closer. They came so close that the noises were knocking on his forehead.

He prayed desperately.

Flood of traces of time and fate overwhelmed him. All the fragments he could see became continues pictures that showed Sudreth what, why and how's. He saw himself falling in love with Kalmin, but, at the same time, he also saw abyss.

4.
Argus noticed something different. First, this Astral Sprite had been sleeping longer than usual. Secondly, this Astral Sprite was trying to avoid him. He had not seen Sudreth around for almost three days since the last time they met for breakfast.

"Get up," Argus pulled Sudreth up from the comfortable haystacks, "What's wrong with you? Other than being over sentimental and covering yourself with this cape."

"I swear I'm good." He pulled his cape out of Argus's mouth, "You know what, I can see the book clearly. Like, real clear."

"Good. You are having some serious problems." Argus nodded his head. "I should call Lucian to have a look."

5.
His mind was a mess because of all the different thoughts he was having about Kalmin and Argus. He couldn't understand his feelings towards Kalmin - it was totally different from the feelings he had for Argus. Not only were these thoughts were driving him crazy, but he discovered something else. He could no longer... he lost his reproductive capability.

"The Truth is the most cunning businessman." He now knew how accurate this sentence was. Those continuous pictures of different fate and time were showing up in his brain endlessly. He slept with his cape covering his whole body. Nothing was important anymore because he saw abyss. It would come before he understood why.

"But thank you, Truth." He saw the ending, and it was a happy one.

6.
He had a fight with Argus because of Kalmin.

He was nothing compared to how strong Argus was, but he managed to cut Argus on the neck with his nails. He knew Argus
could slice him into two pieces with just one cut.

But he wouldn't.

Argus didn't say anything. The expressions in his eyes were hard to explain.

7.
I hear the sound of the end. Death is dancing with abyss.

The league was attacked. Argus and Kalmin were running in the speed of light to get back to their home as soon as possible, but it was too late. Sudreth was laying in the corner, covered in wounds and blood and scratches. There was a deep one on his chest.

Sudreth told them to go away because he 'had enough of them' earlier that morning. The Truth once told him everyone would survive the attack. Everyone except for Argus, who would die because of infection. Sudreth knew he could change it, so he sent Argus away and changed the trend of fate - he could be the one died of infection.

"Hey Argus, you know what... I can see the book clearly." He hadn't been so happy for a long time. "I told you I can..." Argus couldn't hold his feeling. He cried and moaned. He rested his head next to Sudreth.

He couldn't save him.

"I prayed for a stronger ability. I can see the ultimate ending... This is the best ending which I could see."

"The best ending for the one I love, and the one I rest my soul on."

8.
"If my future is complex and my life has been shorten, then it must be your fault, Sudreth." Argus repeated this over and over again when Sudreth was recovering. He said it too many times.

Sudreth woke up from his bad fever and realised he was not going to die. The one who got injured changed, so the ending also changed. Fate was always changing.

They now have enough time to think about their relationships, but that's another story. "Your complex future tells me you're not going to live a short life, not even by a day. This is all due to me, okay?"

The star was still shining bright in the night sky.

Ohhhh what a pretty boy! I think he looks very celestial despite deviating from the common aesthetic - his platinum circuit and steel freckle on his wings actually remind me of the so-called "crop circles" supposedly made by ~aliens~. Your lore is wonderfully written, I was sympathetic towards Sudreth and really glad things seemed to work out okay. His abilities to see the future is written in a way that's believable and unique - it doesn't make him overpowered, in fact, the suffering he went through for the sake of Argus and Kalmin is evident of the consequences. I can't imagine how agonizing that would have been for him to try and make that decision ;n; I'm a little unclear on how exactly Sudreth managed to survive alongside the others, but I'm assuming it has something to do with balancing out the equivalent exchange...Anyways, I really love Sudreth's character, I hope he will be doing okay in the future!

Finally, I "tried" not to pick too many from the first page, but... eh. Sudreth is clearly an older dragon in your lair because of all his lore. I love it. The idea of a dragon and a star being born and dying simultaneously is very interesting.

His apparel contrasts very nicely with his dull genes, like nebulae in the dark sky. Speaking of which, I wonder if he looked up at the sky, if he would see the night like a long-exposure photo. Actually, I wonder if he only sees a few different futures for the universe above (or even only one), instead of hundreds for this world. Another way to show how insignificant any given individual or group is to the universe.
