Biography

Zircon

ZIRCON YES

eSyTGBM.png

Zircon is Nova's second in command, the dragon who Nova took a very quick liking to. Hyper and impulsive, Zircon is always getting into trouble with other dragons. Many find Zircon to be a bit too much, but he doesn't let that get to him. Zircon is always willing to help others and listen to their problems, or even just hang out. He is always open to new friendships, though Aster is his best friend. The two are practically brothers and are often found together. Aster was Zircon's first friend in the city, and was made a member of Selene's court at his insistence. He is sort of the court jester now. He is also a dreamer and explorer, and loves fighting in the Coliseum, much to Aster's dismay.

Arrival
The coatl hatchling was lost. Around him, glittering trees emanated an unfamiliar aura. When he stood still, he could swear he heard whispering all around him. He didn’t know how he ended up in this strange forest. Last thing he remembered was falling asleep to the comforting hum of machinery all around him, then he was dreaming about a starry sky with a full moon, then he woke up in this forest. He didn’t like it one bit.

He was scared. Where were his nest-mates? Where were his parents? Where were all the machines and all the electricity? He’d never seen so many trees in his whole life...Some of them made weird, twisting shapes that looked like dragons. He wondered if they were dragons…he wondered if he’d become a tree, too. The idea made him suddenly burst into a sprint.

He lost track of time as he ran. He searched desperately for anything familiar, but only felt more and more lost the further he ran. His path became more erratic, he barreled through the underbrush. Finally, he tripped on a root and fell face-first into something soft. At first he was grateful for the white object that broke his fall, but then hundreds of tiny spiders spilled out of it and began crawling over his feathers. The hatchling squealed and panicked, jumping into a nearby creek. He succeeded in washing off the spiders, but the creek was much deeper than he anticipated and swept him away.

He struggled to paddle his way to the creekbed, his tiny legs moving as hard as they could. He dug a foot into the silt and managed to slow himself down enough to reach out and grab a low-hanging branch. With all his might, he pulled himself out of the creek and onto a muddy bank. He collapsed at the base of the least-creepy tree in his line of sight and began sobbing.

He was lost, he was scared, he was tired and wet and muddy and cold and he couldn’t take it anymore! He didn’t want to wander this stupid forest forever! Where were all the other dragons?! Why didn’t some adult come and tell him what to do?

He sobbed loudly, his chest heaving and his eyes stinging. Finally, he drifted into a fitful sleep.

“…are his parents?” Zircon heard a voice question as he drifted back into consciousness.

“I don’t know,” a second, younger voice responded. “He doesn’t look like he could be any of our neighbors’ kids.”

Zircon struggled to open his eyes. He saw two other coatls standing over him, an adult and a hatchling about his age.

The adult gasped, “Lighting eyes…You’re certainly a long way from home, little one…”

“Are you okay?” the other hatchling asked. “I’m Aster. And this is Nova. We’re gonna take care of you, right Nova?”

The elder coatl confirmed, “Of course! Little one, come back to our clan with us. We’ll get you clean and warm in no time.”

The hatchling instantly sprung to his feet, cheering, “That sounds great!” He happily followed the two home. Later, Nova named the hatchling Zircon.
