Barchan

Down in darkness deep,
I carry you,
To eternal sleep.

He slides through the earth, a formless shadow. Nary a ripple shows as he slithers by, the only sign of his passage a slight startle of wildlife, the barest shiver of leaves. More sensitive dragons may feel a cold chill run up their spine, but most do not notice his presence.

He watches them through the earth, where no one thinks to seek him, and waits patiently for his next meal. Once found, his prey vanish into a sudden crack beneath their feet, and he draws them away to feast as the trap seals up without a trace.

When you look into the abyss, and the abyss looks back, it's not because you've fallen too deep, but because he pushed you in.
