After losing her pearl in a particularly daring diving maneuver, Maiandra wandered the shores alone for a few years – always training her diving abilities in hopes of someday finding her pearl again in the depths.

What she found instead after a particularly nasty storm, was a half-drowned skydancer. Barely clinging to live, he had nevertheless managed to hold on to a decently sized pearl – hers! Hastily Maiandra dragged the skydancer away from the water, and did her best to help him recover.

Though he couldn’t say how he ended up in the water, or how he’d found her pearl, Maiandra was overjoyed at finally being reunited with her most prized possession, and happy that she had been able to save a life. She came to see these events as a sign the she should help those who found themselves in distress in and under the sea – who knew what her reward would be next time?

Together with the young male whom she rescued – and who remembered his name, Mimir, after a good night’s sleep – Maiandra began patrolling the shores, always ready to help those who found themselves in peril.

In time, they found others willing to accompany and help them, and at some point the growing group unanimously decided that she should be their matriarch. Shortly thereafter – and after a few adorably cringeworthy weeks of courting – Maiandra chose Mimir as her mate and as patriarch of her clan.

Today, she’s mostly busy with organizing her growing clan and their rescue efforts.
