Not enough. Never enough. The words of her parents echoed in her head for years. Her wings were weak, but her will was strong, so she never stopped trying. But every time she failed. And every time, her parents would not let her hear the end of it. Look at how your sisters fly. Why can't you do that? Why are you so weak?

Even after death, their disapproval remained. So Alya vowed to prove them wrong. She was going to lead a clan. Armed with only her wits and her childhood friend and mate, Thistle, Alya set out to find a home.

How they happened upon Petalwisp Bluff was a secret that not even they could tell. But the matter of fact is they ended up in that mysterious cavern in the cliff face.

After many moons, Alya and Thistle learned that they were not the only ones called to Petalwisp Bluff, just the first. The visitors started with a rough Guardian who called herself Topaz: the last remains of a disbanded nature clan. She stayed for a few days to rest her weary body and gather energy to continue her quest to find a new charge. Then, there was the Skydancer who claimed to be of the stars and would sit on the edge of the bluff, staring at the night sky for hours. She didn't leave.

After more and more dragons came, some staying, some leaving, Alya realized that this was her clan. Not a traditional one, but a clan nonetheless. They were open to all: travelers who needed sleep, runaways who needed a home, and even war-torn veterans who needed healing. Petalwisp Bluff showed itself to them for a reason, and Alya never questioned it. And thus, the Petalwisp Refuge was born.

Most of Petalwisp Refuge’s dragons (and most dragons in general) see Alya as a confident, outgoing leader. In reality, Alya is a nervous wreck, with very little faith in her leadership abilities - she’s just really good at hiding it.

As both a member of the smallest species of dragon and a weak flyer, Alya always stresses the importance of concealing weakness in the presence of strangers and other clans. She extends this to her true emotions, as she wants her clan to believe in her - which is more easily accomplished when she appears as a strong leader. “Fake it ‘til you make it”, if you will.

Alya does not allow anyone to get especially close to her, but she is not cold by any means. In fact, she is quite charming, to the point where she can easily make alliances and friends if she so chooses. She just remains fairly secretive when it comes to her true feelings, so that her image won’t be tarnished by her flaws.

Thistle is the only one who knows the extent of Alya’s self-esteem issues, and she relies on his reassurance in order to remain calm in many situations. He also encourages her to be more open with her clanmates, and out of the shell that her family forced her in. 		Brave Blue Bee
