Schedar ~ ~
LORE
Lore written by sweetpealovey!
‘Wealth is reaped by hands a ready
Though that wealth may be heavy. There’s a responsibility that comes with money But most ignore; become somewhat crummy.’ Some say you can only have 2 of the three: money, happiness, love. Schedar would like to argue that at times he had all three, that was at least for awhile. He was born as the only egg to two loving parents into a clan with a lot of wealth, both in the physical sense and the metaphorical sense. Gems, gold, and food were always in an abundance so he never really had to struggle or work hard for anything. He figured out early on that his parents had problems saying no to their favorite, and not to forget only, child. To them, he was the light of their lives and would give up everything to make him happy. And everything they did. Whenever he asked for the latest and greatest toy or trinket they would do everything in their power to give it to him no matter how expensive. It didn’t take long for it to become a game to him. Every day he would ask for something more expensive and extravagant than the last day all in hopes that they would eventually put their claws down and say no. They never did. He took his parents never saying no as a lack of caringness for him. He became bitter and snobby with the knowledge that no matter what he did he could have what he wanted. Other dragons had to work for what they wanted but he had it given to him on a golden platter. In hopes of getting some attention and acceptance from others, he would flaunt his wealth. He could often be found in the streets either bragging or complaining. By doing such he often got into fights. The worst was with a young imperial by the name of Shard that was visiting from a neighboring clan that was called their home in The Scarred Wasteland. If anyone was asked there would be a great degree of variance on who started this fight. Some would say Schedar and others would say Shard. The only fact both sides could agree on was that the fight was nasty. It left both parties responsible with slashes and some bruised egos. Of course, the bruised ego didn’t do much to tame the young dragon. He was still as flaunting as ever. As he aged he became more egotistical, taking a great pride in his looks. When others would go looking for him they often found him grooming himself. If not grooming, then he was surrounded by females, flirting as if tomorrow would never come. He was so popular with the girls that Schedar would get death threats from the other young dragons saying he was to stay away from their girlfriends. Of course, the young dragons weren’t alone in their threats to him. Parents would often find one excuse or another to ban their daughters from associating with him. This went on constantly for years… until everyone reached their breaking point. One can only handle so much negativity, especially from this dragon. It took a lot of convincing to his parents but in the end, his clanmates managed to convince his parents that it would be best to send him off on his own. Maybe then he would learn how to be a proper young dragon, no more flirting, fights, or complaining. With great hesitation and many tears shed on behalf of his parents, he was sent out of the clan with the constraint that he could only come back if he cleaned up his act. He was hurt. A mental pain, not a physical one for the first time. His heart ached with this betrayal. For the first time in his life, reality hit him, hard. It was the first he was without all the amenities he grew up with: no food, shelter, or money. He was forced to try to figure things out on his own. First was the food problem… he had no idea how to catch insects or what plants were edible. The lack of knowledge in this department leads to some comical scenes as he tried to find out which plants were actually delicious. Of course, he wouldn’t call it comical but any onlooker certainly would. Schedar realized that he couldn’t survive on his own. It took some doing but after a few days of searching, he joined a group of dragons. To be honest, it didn’t last long but he did learn some valuable skills like which plants were good to eat and how to catch insects. Then, like before, his ego got the better of him and they kicked out with annoyance. It seemed no one could put up with him for long. Again, he maintained the lifestyle of a nomad. Region after region he wandered. He weathered through some of the harshest conditions: famine, flood, controllable winds, and unbearable heat. Tolerance became his anthem as the karma kicked him while he fought a losing battle and ended up flat on his butt. That didn’t stop him from trying to fight back. Occasionally he would find himself in a clan of dragons. As soon as he did, he would return to his sloth-like ways and would demand to be served like a prince, all high and mighty. And as soon as that happened he would be kicked out once again. Loneliness became commonplace as he wallowed in self-pity but would pick himself up and keep going. That was until he came across a group of dragons one day. Amid the heat and ruin of The Ashfall Waste was a small band of dragons, that like him, were unpopular among their peers. There he found his niche with the unlucky lot. They tolerated his ways as he tolerated their sometimes peculiar ways. Tolerance again became his right-hand man as that was the only way he learned to survive. |
