They sure don't have many hatchlings in this clan, she though.

She had always taken care of hatchlings. Either with her own or others, she had a natural gift as both nurse and midwife. The rowdiest babe mellowed under her watchful presence. Complicated births suddenly eased when she came near. Anxious fathers and mothers were soothed when they heard she was coming.

But this darn clan never made any babies!

Anemi steepled her claws. Aha! she thought, New genes! Dragons love having babies when they get new genes. She would have to be subtle, a gift here or there. "Oh, I saw this new gene, and I just knew it would look perfect on you!" Yes, this might work.
