Named after the Greek word for hymn which means "a song of praise"


‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Hymnos is an alchemist who uses his talents to create remedies for dragons. He has high standards and will only perform treatments that he is sure will help his patients and never harm them. In regards to his profession, he is stern and focused; socially, however, he is withdrawn, despite often feeling lonely. He has formed just a few close friendships who relate to his past hardships. Since he keeps all his claws busy as he works, he usually uses magic to levitate his pearl alongside him. He also has a love of hydrangeas and adorns his mane with their flowers. He tends to be out and about at night because his eyes are used to darkness.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Hymnos has no memory of his hatch-clan, because at a young age he was kidnapped from it and taken to a neighboring Shadow clan. He was raised as one of their own and treated well, but as a young dragon he moved to a Nature clan to follow his friend Harmony. Harmony was a tailor and Hymnos had somewhat of a crush on them, but it was never meant to be. He found that he was gifted in alchemy and used it to learn how to heal ailments.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ The pearlcatcher spent years traveling between clans of different flights and tried settling down with different dragons. Unfortunately, he lost many nests-- predators, egg rot, rival clans, and all manner of bad luck. With each failure he would leave to a new clan to escape the bad memories and disappointed mates Looking for comfort, he returned to the Nature region to search for his old friend Harmony, only to find that they were gone. Hymnos felt lost because he had nowhere to go except for his past homes that were full of bad memories and bonds that he had abandoned.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ He eventually found his way to Pileju's clan, where he was welcomed by its friendly dragons, some of whom had gone through hardships similar to his. Another pearlcatcher not much older than him, Rhain, taught Hymnos how to find comfort in cultivating plants for Gladekeeper. He found that even though he missed his old friends and relationships, he could find familiar joys in new places.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Upon meeting another pearlcatcher in the clan, Sophie, Hymnos was a bit uncomfortable at first from her talkative and slightly flirtatious personality. But the smaller, gemstone-adorned pearlcatcher quickly learned to adjust her character around Hymnos to help him get comfortable and open up to her. Hymnos soon learned that Sophie was quite wise, and if her words were not enough, she had enough scrolls in her hollow to prove it. She used her expertise in philosophy to have conversations with him about how he felt about his past and potential future.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Hymnos found that he wanted to raise a hatchling, but was afraid of making a mistake, letting down a mate, and needing to leave again. He brought this fear up to his few close friends in the clan, who all assured that they would help him if he chose to raise a hatchling again. Sophie, who he had grown much closer to by now, even offered to mother a nest for Hymnos to have for his own.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ After months of contemplating and planning, Hymnos agreed to try raising a nest again. Sophie gave him a single egg, which he looked after earnestly. He kept it nestled in blankets in his hollow, uncovering it when the sun shone in to let the rays warm it. His clanmates stopped by to offer help and entertainment, and they said amongst themselves that he had the dedication of a skydancer.
