Trust is a thing that many dragons find to be there downfall. Kulshedra is not one of those dragons. Since her hatching, the coal imperial has feared betrayal. She knows that everyone around her thinks about her. They all have a plan for how to get rid of her if they need to. This paranoid anxiety is so strong that, at a young age, she left her clan thinking that if she did not escape, her own parents would kill her in her sleep. She wandered for a long time, going through phases of panic, thinking that there were dragons following her. She had to teach herself to fly, to hunt. Kulshedra spent a long time scavenging because she did not feel comfortable getting close enough to another animal that could kill her with its claws, rip her throat out, or tell others where she was. Her anxiety grew, living alone like this until she grew mad with rage and would yell out into the empty air for “them” to go away. She would run in angry circles looking for the caves where they were hiding and never finding anything at all. It was not until one day, doing that very thing, that she dove onto a sprangyroo snarling, her sharp teeth inches from its throat before she realized that it was just an animal. She burst into tears. Kulshedra knows that she is not rational, but the sprangyroo reminded her of this, her inability to control her own fear. It was only then, however, that she realized that she could not be alone forever. She took the sprangyroo in as her familiar and closest friend. By the time Nero found out about the wildly nervous she-dragon, she had already begun killing any stranger that dared to come near her and her sprangyroo. She even took a couple swipes at him when he came to offer her a position in his group of emperors. Kulshedra accepted though. She saw a fire in Nero, a willingness to kill anyone regardless of their alliance to him if they got in his way. She knew that if he or his dragons killed her, it would not be premeditated. It would be wicked and honest. The very thing she needed in a group of dragons because she could do the same thing to them. |
