Sometimes he hears a voice, whispering in his ear like a dream.

Sometimes he follows it, even when he tries with all his strength to stop himself from moving.

Sometimes he returns to the clan, covered in mud and dirt.

Sometimes he returns to the clan, covered in blood.

Sometimes, he remembers what he did when he was gone.

And always, he wishes that he had never eaten that beetle.
