Once upon a time, in this very valley, there lived a little Snapper hatchling named Stubborn. Now, as far as dragons go, he was nothing special: he wasn't particularly strong or fast; he wasn't of great stature; nor could his teeny little wings ever lift him off the ground; he couldn't even conjure up the faintest wisp of magic. But this little hatchling with a heart like a lion was determined to be just like the Guardian heroes of old.

The other little dragons often laughed at him and teased him. Little Stubborn did his best to pay no attention to them, and instead tried to keep being brave.

One day, the hatchlings were playing a game of Knights and Castles. Stubborn thought it looked like fun and asked to join them as a knight.

"You can't be a dragon knight, you're not very strong. You can't even fly!" said a little Mirror hatchling.

"I can too be a knight, I'm just as loyal as any real knight!" said Stubborn.

"Prove it then," said the Mirror. "If you can stand guard over this little tree all day, and not waver, then we shall see about letting you play with us tomorrow."

So Stubborn set about his task with great enthusiasm, watching over his new sapling ward with great care.
