Achromatopsia

...But though MANLY MCBRO sent both the hatchling and its father away, not wanting to (br)offend such a mighty lady, his heart was still soft. Too soft. Far from being abandoned, as the note it carried about it neck suggested, the tiny dragon was given a name, and a very good minder - Sir Cuit, one of the most honorable and caring in the clan. He was quick to educate the little one in reading, writing, and most importantly, haggling for great deals as they went about the auction house.

It was here that the older dragon realized that his tiny protoge was in fact completely color-insensitive. To EYEBLINDER, the whole world was varying shades of grey. The problem likely came from the Spiral's father; though an excellent cook, he'd always had issues with his plating out in terms of good colour arrangements. Still, Sir Cuit decided that it didn't matter much when one was shopping, so long as the signs were read, so instead of 'exalting the defect', he decided to continue with what MANLY MCBRO had ordered he do.

And MANLY MCBRO was always kind to the hatchling, always careful with how it was treated. Only when EYEBLINDER was considered old enough to travel on his own was he left to his own devices - and even then, he was left with a clan's rough address to fly to. Still too childish to realize that as others could hardly stand to look at him, communal living was likely the mother of all bad ideas, the plucky Spiral took off, sure that his next destination would be an exciting one.

The bright hatchling came into our clan, a small noodle of a dragon. Or clan leader, Prince, welcomed the hatchling eagerly, blindness paving the path to friendship.
The librarians and researchers in the clan shot the bright youngling stern looks occasionally, his color scheme distracting them from their studies. But the tundras and coatls alike were impressed by his enthusiasm for learning, and forgave him for his uncontrollable colors. The tundras especially were impressed by him, because he smelled interesting and had a fierce lightning work ethic.
His enthusiasm was tiring to witness, but he made a lot of friends while here. Much like other spirals we've met, he's constantly at full tilt, talking rapidly and doing a myriad of jobs.
Its a wonder he hasn't grown bored of us, since both coatls and tundras are silent breeds. But he managed to learn the coatl language...rather quickly, and now he hisses everything as often as possible.
Eventually however, we will send the noodle off towards other clans and more dragons to harass with his hissing and his speed....and his colors.

FOUND WHILE PAINTBALLING. VERY BRIGHT, SO BRIGHT. OUR BLACKSMITH RUBBED COAL ALL OVER HIM IN HOPES TO LOWER DOWN HIS BRIGHT APPEARANCE. DIDN'T WORK. SENT HIM FREE TO AVOID MORE PAINFUL GLARING IN HIS GENERAL DIRECTION.

WAS IN A CAVE LOOKING FOR GLOWING MUSHROOMS FOR RECIPE. ACCIDENTALLY MISTOOK HIM FOR ONE AND BROUGHT HIM HOME. MOST CLANMATES DID NOT LIKE THAT (ESPECIALLY IMPULSE) MOONBURST LIKED HIM HOWEVER AND WANTS TO TRAVEL WITH HIM.

Spotted by the Nightguard at the entrance to the lair. I allowed his entrance for a visit. Spent the day window-shopping at all the crafter's shops without purchasing anything. Craftmasters became quite irritated with his presence, and so I encouraged him to move on.

The Spiral has been with us for near a moon, and even my eyes can not bear his vibrant coloring for much longer. He has laid a nest with the feral spiral female we've been quarantining, and their hatchling bears the same symptoms as her mother. Fabro and Nix have decided to drive them out tomorrow, and the entire clan looks forward to when they may be able to remove their eye protection.
