Biography

FROST
Hatchery Breeder
∙ • ° ice_rune_20.png° • ∙

He trusted her. That was his first mistake.
When Frost was just a hatchling he was taken to live with a new clan. The clan was very young. There were just a handful of dragons in it, and the clan leaders were taking in many hatchlings in an attempt to strengthen their group. They existed among the fractured landscape of the Frigid Floes, but sought to grow their numbers to make a place in the Snowsquall Tundra for themselves. Frost was oblivious to the pivotal role he was to play in his new clan's hierarchy. The Alpha male had selected him to be his second hand. He saw the potential in Frost and wanted him to join him in battle one day. He wanted Frost to rule over the clan as one of their leaders and to take his place when the day came. Frost was too young to understand and was content to play with the other hatchlings. There was only one hatchling that had been born within the clan, and he was the same age as Frost. They quickly became inseparable and the hatchling's mother, though overbearingly protective of her son, treated Frost as if he were her own child. That's why Frost didn't think twice when she asked him to follow her one day.

It was early in the morning, the sun had yet to break the frozen silence of the night and the other dragons were sound asleep. The mother dragon nudged Frost awake, claiming she needed to show him something. It was a surprise for her son and she needed his help. He needed to be quiet. He would need to keep a secret. And so he left. He never did say goodbye to his friend. How could he have known that he would never see him again?

Deception
He followed her for what felt like hours. He struggled to keep his footing on the icy rocks. Why did she have to walk so fast? Trudging through the snow, exhausted and gasping for air, he asked her what the surprise was. In an impatient hiss she told him that he would see when they got there. He had never heard her use this tone before, and he began to feel uneasy. The wind was whipping the snow around him and he could barely see a few inches ahead. It was surely the start of a blizzard. And they were so far from the rest of the clan... He was only a few days old and his muscles weren't strong enough for such a long trek yet. Despite his best efforts, he finally collapsed in the snow. Irritated, the mother dragon snapped that it was fine, she would carry him the rest of the way. They were almost there anyway.

When she placed him gently on the ground, Frost lifted his weary head to try to peer through the white out. He couldn't see anything. Where was the surprise? "I'm doing this for my son. It's nothing personal. He should be the Alpha's right hand, not you." And with that she shoved him and the ground beneath him disappeared. Down, down he fell into a pit. He hit rock at the bottom. It was cold down here, much colder even than the icy air above. The pain of the fall was quickly numbed by the cold. How deep was this pit? How could she do this? Panic crept in and he began to whimper. He called out for the dragon above, but he knew she was already gone. His crying stopped when he heard an answering howl above. No... howls. There was more than one. The wolves had found him. Even above the wails of the storm he could hear them. He wanted to scream, he wanted to try to climb his way out, but he was just too cold. His body refused to work with him, the cold seemed to be shutting down his internal systems. Even his heartbeat began to slow. He took a final shallow breath, and then slipped into a dream.

The Rescue
He had no sense of how much time had passed. He had been in a deep sleep, numb to the world, and now all of a sudden he felt something. It must be heat. He could feel it in his toes. Unable to open his eyes, he had the feeling that he had moved his foot, though he couldn't be sure. He tried to move the rest of his body, to stand up, but he couldn't. Nothing was moving. It was as if he were paralyzed. As his senses came to he could tell there was someone with him. The air was still and he could hear it breathing. In a small, raspy voice he finally was able to sputter a few of the questions that were mulling in his mind. "Who are you? Where am I?"

The voice that answered was calm and patient. There was a soothing tone to the voice and he assumed it was a female, though his vision was too dull to see her yet. "My name is Envy. I found you in that pit over there," she gestured toward the cavernous opening in the ground just a few wing spans from where they stood, but he couldn't see her nodding. "You were frozen. Well, you still kind of are. You're thawing out now. You're quite heavy. It took some time to get you out." Again, she nodded to a tangle of ropes and equipment she had used to leverage and hoist him out, but the gesture was lost on him. He was just able to start to see colors. There was something orange in front of him, and it was moving. It must be a fire. He could just feel the warmth now. "I wouldn't have seen you at all if it hadn't been for the wolves. Their tracks were all over the ground. Must have been a whole pack trying to get at you. I had a hunch they wouldn't be that interested if you weren't still alive. I found you this morning and its nightfall now. I've spent this whole time getting you out and trying to warm you back up." At that moment he felt a blanket being lifted from his back. It was replaced immediately with a warmer blanket, and the first was set next to the fire to heat up again. Who was this mystery dragon?

Falling for Envy
Over the course of the next few days Envy nursed him back to health. Even in his frozen state of forced hibernation, Frost had grown. He didn't know how long he had been abandoned in the pit, but he was no longer a hatchling when he was pulled out. Though he recovered and appeared to be in perfect health, his skin now had a permanent ice stained appearance that wasn't there before.

The best part of the whole ordeal was Envy. As he healed, he got to know her. She did most of the talking the first few days since it was still taxing on him to speak. She insisted he conserve his strength. He learned that she had also been born in an ice clan. She had left them while she was very young to explore the Southern Ice Field for herself. Adorned in thick cloaks and furs, she navigated the treacherous grounds in the spirit of a nomad. There was nothing more exhilarating for her than waking up with the sun each morning and watching in awe as the landscape was revealed from the night. She loved nothing more than exploring the land in solitude and hiking for hours, lost in her own thoughts. Frost began to admire her, and as he gained back his health an overwhelming sense of dread began to consume him. He knew that she would have to leave him.

He braced himself when she approached him one morning. She had something very important to say and he knew this was it. He was strong enough to care for himself now and it was time for her to move on. He was ready to accept the news with grace. He was grateful for everything she had done for him, and he would never allow himself to hold her back. Though it pained him from the bottom of his heart to do so, he was ready to say goodbye.

"Travel with me." These were not the words he expected to hear from her, and he blinked in astonishment as he took a moment to comprehend what was being said. Envy quickly stammered, "You don't have to if you don't want to. I'm sure you have plenty of things you want to do now that you're free. But, if you do, I would really like it if you traveled with me. I'm going to the Tangled Wood. I've always wanted to see it." She anxiously waited for his response. Of course he would go to the Tangled Wood, he wanted nothing more than to stay with her. And so they set out on their journey together.

The New Clan
They joined the Glass Shatter Clan once they arrived in the shadows. They had never expected to tie themselves down to a clan, but Envy needed a safe place to lay their first nest together. The clan was disjointed and most dragons kept to themselves, but it offered a fierce protection to its members. They benefited from being part of the Glass Shatter and contributed as a breeding pair, while still being able to explore the lands and remain independent of the rest of the group. They would disappear for days and return only to nest or restock their food rations from the clan's hoard. One night, as they returned to restock, they found Falkor rustling everyone out of their sleep. There was no explanation, but Aries was having the entire clan relocated to the the ice domain. Frost had loved his time in the shadows with his mate, but his heart skipped a beat when he heard the news and a brief smile flashed across his face. They were going home.
