"Insert Dragon Quote Here."
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

I sat at the edge of one of the guard posts just on the outskirts of the Clan, dangling my feet off the edge.
God why here of all places, she knows I don’t like heights…
I didn’t dare look down knowing that if I did I might throw up. It was bad enough this horrible anxiety of waiting was slowly taking over. I didn’t know how long it was going to be…she did have a lot to do around here. I sighed and looked out over the untouched land beyond our borders. It was pretty at dusk that was for sure.
“Hey…sorry I took so long. I had a few things that I needed to finished up before Freya would let me leave…”
I nearly jumped out of my skin. “Jesh, I didn’t even hear or see you come up here… shouldn’t scare me like that I could have fallen to my death.” I frowned.
“Perks of being a bounty hunter. But you’re going to live forever, or at least outlive me. Remember?” She said as she sat down a smile playing across her face. I tried to smile back.
She frowned and sighed. “What’s wrong with you?” her eyes sparkled in the fading light.
She knew already of course, she saw right through me, even though I would never lie to her to begin with.
“You know exactly what’s wrong…”
“The fact that you love me? Leo, we-…”
I turned away, watching the sun set behind the tree line. There wasn’t need for this conversation. I had my answer. She was Queen after all…my best friend, a Queen. I almost laughed aloud. Not at the fact that she ended up being a Queen. I thought she fit the role perfectly.
“What’s so funny?” Her face scrunched up and she glared at me.
“Nothing…I just…want to know how we ended up in this mess.”
“I mean if you want the logical answer I saved you from a death sentence… as for the love thing, that’s on you.”
“No.” I shook my head. “Not that one. This one.” I gestured to the entire Outpost below us. The light of a thousand candles making the area even more breathtaking. I glanced over at her, she was looking over the land, her land.
No doubt she was beautiful although she didn’t think so no matter how hard I tried to convince her. She doesn’t believe her mate either. I looked away and sighed.
“Hey…” she nudged her shoulder into mine. “Cheer up. Please? It’s no fun when you’re like this.”
“I know, so…uh…what did you bring me up here to talk about?”
“Oh, yeah…that…” she cleared her throat but didn’t say anything as she looked back over the Outpost.
So, I waited. I didn’t have anything else to do.
Finally, she spoke. “I was thinking about expanding our lands.”
“Our?”
“Shush, just listen for a second.”
“Okay…”
“I was thinking about having you start your own Clan. I-I know it’s a lot to ask but it would help me in the end. To have someone I can trust in another Clan. Think of the possibilities!” She glanced over at me.
My heart beat sped up, “but what about my current Queen’s guard position…you can’t just trust anyone with that! I’m needed here. I can’t just…”
“Leo relax, I already have that under control. There’s no need to worry about stuff like that.”
“This is to get rid of me…isn’t it?” I couldn’t tell what I was feeling anymore.
“What? No, it’s not to get rid of you. Idiot. If you aren’t going to take it seriously then I don’t even know why I bothered asking!” She stood up looked down at me once more and turned away. “You need to understand I can do things without anyone, without you. I can just disappear and no one will ever find me again. I don’t need this Leo, but these people…they do. I’m not doing this for me, or you. I’m doing it for the people that count on me to rule. And if you can’t handle it then I will just find someone else to do it.”
“Namira…” but she was already gone. I was left standing alone, which was no surprise at all.

Later that night I approached Freya, who scowled without looking up from her book.
“Freya…”
“Leo.”
“Where’s Namira?”
“I could ask you the same thing.” She looked up from her reading.
“She stormed off after I…I messed up everything.”
“Why am I not surprised.” She sighed and closed the book placing it on the table beside her.
“Have you checked in with Ash?”
I shuddered, “No…”
“Then you should start there.” Freya began to stand just as Ash rushed in. His eyes wild and narrowing when they slide to me. Pure hatred in those eyes.
He handed a letter to Freya who quickly glanced at it.
“If I find her before you do Leo, so help me…” she shoved the note at me and dashed after Ash.
The crumbled piece of paper in my hand felt like a weight on my forever breaking heart.
I love you Ash. But I need a break, don’t come looking for me.

[Few days later]

I understood now why she wanted me to start my own Clan I didn’t before her disappearing act. Which she came back safely a few hours later.
I didn’t ask her to meet me anywhere but I knew where to find her. She was sitting on top of the roof of the main building looking up at the stars. For a while I just stood there not knowing how to start a conversation. I almost turned to leave.
“Can you just get it over with Leo? You standing there without saying anything is a bit creepy.”
“S-sorry.” I sat down next to her.
“You know I hate that word.”
“I know, but I really am. For everything. I understand now…why you wanted me to start my own Clan.”
“Do you? Or are you just staying that so I won’t disappear again?” She didn’t look at me.
“I believe I think I do fully understand…and I should have been more…I don’t know…honored? That you chose me to be the one to do this.” I sighed. “I’m just scared…I’ve lost people before, never this close but…I have. And I didn’t want the same thing to happen with you because of this stupid crush…and my jealousy of everyone. I can’t help the way I feel…but I know that this isn’t about getting rid of me now.”
“And I can’t help the way that I feel either Leo. I think people seem to forget that.”
“I know that…I thought things would change and when I realized that they wouldn’t...I just have to live with that…”
“I’ve thought about that too, things being different. Not just on your end but mine...like it would be nice but I also don’t want it like that…you can understand, that, right?” She finally looked at me.
“Of course. I think…” I shrugged.
She rolled her eye and smiled slightly. “So you going to do it?”
“Yes. I am ready for this challenge.”
She nodded, “then you know what I expect when you return?” she looked back up at the stars and I followed her gaze.
“Yes.”

The next day I began my journey looking for a place to call my own.
I knew the that it wasn’t going to be easy but I never liked easy anyway.
A few weeks later I stumbled upon a small area in the Shadow region and for a while it was just me. I didn’t like the solitude but I chose to endure it for her. As the months passed a few Outcasts joined me making the small space a little less lonely. While I began with trust issues I soon grew to trust those around me. Not as fully as I trust my closer friends but it was getting there. A few months later I chose the name Worldfire, not a very fitting name for a Shadow Clan but it was something.

“So are you serious about this move?” My second in command asked.
“As serious as I’ll ever be. Once everyone is ready for the move take them to Fire as soon as possible. I have a few places I need to be and then I will return.”
My second nodded and I slung the backpack over my shoulder. With a bit of hesitation, I pulled a small feather for my pocket and gently ran my fingers down the edge.
This was it the moment that I have been waiting months for.

I made the journey back to my old home and when I arrived at the gates a few days later she was waiting.
“Hello kid, long time no see.” she smiled and I smiled back. Holding out the tiny feather that she took without hesitation.
“Welcome to We Fallen Few Outpost.” And the gates opened.
