"We are one, two halves of the same whole."

Nahuatl and Nahuati are two halves of the same whole. Born in the same instant from a rare twin egg, some believe that the cold and ice of the night caused the deities to become confused, bestowing the same soul upon two children born of the same egg. They are mirror images of each other, and completely opposite of the rest of their family. Their parents, Kahoalii and Pele, are aligned with the elements of fire and shadow, through and through. Their sibling, Umbra, chose to align himself with Shadow, unknowingly helping to bridge the gap between Fire and Ice.

Their egg was laid among ice and snow in the worst winter the Sea of a Thousand Currents had suffered in a century. It nestled in a drift of ice crystals upon a sheet of frozen water that was tossed upon the sea. Their parents did their best to protect them, but they were already weakened by the storm. When their egg finally cracked open, a massive wave rose above their tiny raft, seeking to drown the newborn children and their parents. Nahuatl and Nahuati's eyes opened, and the first thing they saw was each others eyes. As gallons of turbulent water rushed towards them, the peak of the wave curling over the ice and crashing towards them, the twins merely looked at the thundering doom pouring towards them. And the entire world stopped. Pouring rain that had half-frozen into snow paused in the air, the wave above them became still. The entire storm had halted in a bubble around them, frozen in time by the enormous power of a twin soul. Their parents were shocked, looking around in wonder at what their children had done. Outside, waves still beat against coastlines and ice formed on tumultuous waves, but the moment they came close, they would just... stop.

For hours, the bubble in time held as the newborns eagerly explored their tiny birthplace, finally snuggling up to their parents as the hurricane outside slowly dissipated. Then everything crashed back into place, now-gentle waves lapping against their raft as Kahoalii and Pele took off with the twins, and their slightly-older son cradled in their talons.

Upon return to their clan, they consulted many a wise dragon and soothsayer, only receiving one answer: your children are gifted with immense power. It would be best, for your safety and theirs, for you to let them go. And so that was what they did. Nahuatl and Nahuati's minds matured at a faster rate than others, even though their bodies stayed those of younglings for much longer. They were strange and quiet, rarely speaking to anyone and always staying together. It was discovered that they were unable to connect with other minds- actually, that wasn't entirely true. They were fully capable of touching other minds, but the only time someone had ever touched their shared mind, the dragon had been overwhelmed by the raw and complex and simple and contradictory nature they found within. When they woke up, the dragon later said that it was like touching the mind of an untamed force of nature.

Only a few months after their return to the clan, Nahuatl and Nahuati's bodies began turning to ice. At first, it seemed to be an unnatural disease. But once mages and soothsayers had looked at the 'problem', they realized that they were simply attaining their natural state, like a Petal Jumper emerging from its chrysalis. Within mere weeks, the only thing visible of their original coloring was their blue Water-eyes. Once the transformation was complete, the twins left the clan. They bid farewell to their parents, seeking their own way in the world.
