??? from a small household in ??? that has been in the family for several generations now... some of his ancestors were clerics/paladins of ??? a god of vengeance. The most pious of these ancestors was the keeper of a reliquary containing a carved bone amulet blessed by ???. the reliquary was housed inside of the small tomb located on the family's land...Over the generations the family drifted away from the worship of ???, and his family has since fallen on hard times. One summer before their father had fallen sick, ??? had bought a cheap enchanted necklace using what money he'd saved up from. Repeating what the enchanter had told him, he folded the necklace into his sister's hand telling her that the necklace would allow her to send him a message, and he would be able to hear it from anywhere in the world. However, it would only work once, and so he advised her to only use it if she was in grave danger. His sister ??? ...

Their father passed away from his illness 3 years after that winter, leaving the 3 of them to find a means of providing for themselves. Their mother did what work she could find, and he and his sister often helped her when they could. ??? saw that they couldn't survive off of the meager coin they were earning and turned to crime to try and make ends meet. He couldn't tell either of them the truth about where he was getting the coin. It would break their mother's heart, and so he would make up stories to tell them. He was often gone a week or so at a time, time spent traveling from home to the nearest port town where he could set to work without fear of running into his family on accident. In his time there, he made the acquaintance of several less savory folk, pirates even, who would some times buy goods he stole. He'd eventually made friends with a particular group of pirates, and would sometimes sail with them and ply his trade in other towns where they made port. He would be sure to send word back home before leaving of false jobs in other towns, always promising to return as soon as he could.

One day as he was returning aboard the pirate's ship, he suddenly hears his sister's voice, trembling slightly with fear. a ??? had taken his sister captive... recalling the old stories, ??? hastily returned home to retrieve the reliquary for surely the relic contained within would help him in this hour of need. Donning an old set of hide armor, he left to search for the location his sister had described...

he found the location easily enough, and, donning the bone amulet, he made his way onward in search of his sister...

The battle was one-sided, ??? hadn't stood a chance against the ???. He yelled for his sister to run, before being frozen in place with magic. The ??? simply walked up to him, clicking their tongue against the roof of their mouth as he drew near. The ??? stood there in front of him for a few moments, one hand cradling an elbow whilest he held a finger to his chin in mock contemplation with the other. Then, the ??? drew a --- dagger from their belt, and as they brought the blade to ???'s neck, they mused as they slowly traced the blade along his neck that
"It was a good show at the very least. Perhaps the gods will pity you, but I can't have you mucking up my plans now, can I?"
Clutching the the odd medallion around their neck, the ??? whispered something and a portal opened behind ???. He felt his strength leaving him as blood flowed from him, and then suddenly he felt the spell holding him lift as the ??? pushed him backwards into the portal... then... nothing.
