Oft thought as sickly and frail,
He prays the tonics and potions won't fail.
Playing roulette with what he takes,
He drinks concoctions Kalama makes.
He hopes one day her treatments will prevail.

Helios came to clan with his mate, Kalama, after being banished from their previous clan. The fault for their banishment lays somewhat on Helios. After having gotten poisoned from mishandling of some common podid claws, Helios had needed treatment. Not one to try and wait to see if he was worth saving by the official healer, Helios stole some herbs and anti-toxins. He knew Kalama could save him if he brought her the materials. His one mistake was that he was caught before he could bring them to her. As punishment for stealing from the clan, he was effectively banished. Accusing Kalama of conspiring with him, they were sent out together.

When they were allowed entry into the clan by Pria, Kalama quickly found a way to contribute by healing. Helios, who was still poisoned, was instead attacked by all the disease to be found in plague territory. Bedridden, he became useless to the clan. It wasn't hard to see that all had a place where they worked, and Helios began to fear that he would be banished again.

He quickly began thinking of things for him to do. He realized that, with the way his body had already begun failing him, there was nothing worse for him. Thus, he asked Kalama if she would be willing to let him be the one to test any experimental potions and medicines. She agreed, and Pria gave a quiet acknowledgement. The pair may have beautiful children together, but what good was a useless father? No one pays much attention to what would happen should one of the vials contain something deadly.

Better dead than useless.
