Biography

Namesake: Penelope Aislin "Poppet" Murray (The Night Circus)

Times picked for the "I know that reference!" thread: 6

The twins arrived without warning.

Nothing was there the day before, then suddenly they appeared-- two beached Water eggs, fragile and helpless in the warm spring sun. Later, it was assumed the currents had carried them out of their nest and to the ocean, eventually washing ashore on the pink sands of the Starfall Isles.

The eggs were found by an Arcane clan, whose Water members immediately re-submerged them in an attempt to save the hatchlings inside. The resident alchemist's cauldron was used to transport them to the clan's lair, and the dragons took shifts fetching fresh water and keeping watch over their newest clanmates.

Messengers were sent to locate the misplaced eggs' parents, but they came up empty-handed. As the day shifted to night, many dragons gave up hope of the eggs hatching and went to bed. "We've done all we can do to help," they claimed.

A few dragons, however, remained by the side of the cauldron long into the night. Luckily for them, their stubbornness was rewarded.

Six minutes before midnight, one of the eggs cracked open to reveal a tiny male Nocturne. His sister followed him into the world seven minutes after midnight.

The twins were promptly welcomed into the clan and given their names-- Penelope for the girl, Winston for the boy. No one can recall who called them "Poppet" and "Widget" first, but the nicknames stuck.

It was later discovered that the magic-infused waters of the Arcanist's domain had affected the twins in a profound way. Many Water dragons have a natural talent for prophecy, but Poppet and Widget's extraordinary gifts relate to the times at which they hatched.

Poppet, being born seven minutes after midnight, possesses the gift of seeing the future. She will readily admit that it is both a great blessing and a curse. One should be careful when she predicts a terrible event in the stars-- it often comes true.
