Biography
T I A M A T THE BARBED WIRE EMPRESS The Devil |
╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
All the horror stories you've heard are true. ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Some say Tiamat came down from the Waste. Other rumors suggest she rose up out of one the deep ocean trenches. Many half-truths and falsehoods surround the origins of the sharp-toothed Snapper empress, but what is undoubtedly and painfully certain is the nature of her current schemes. Having staked her claim on a branch canyon to the northeast of the Expanse, she has set in motion plans to build an empire in the sands - an empire built on the backs of enslaved dragons. Tiamat exercises control over her underlings with a reserved, diplomatic air, her orders enforced by her bodyguards, her yeti familiar, and her crackling maw of lightning. She shows a false kindness to all her slaves, promising them warmth and safety if they quietly submit. Her thugs scrounge the stragglers from nomad clans and trade caravans, and she has even gone so far as to steal hatchlings and eggs from border clans in both Light and Lightning territory. Her two most reliable servants were acquired from a nest in the Hewn City, and she groomed the infant Guardians to believe she was their charge, thus ensuring their unwavering devotion. Careful to spread out her abductions, Tiamat works in secret, regularly circulating rumors to keep trade hubs wary of her presence. Fear and pain are the instruments by which she builds her compound in the canyon; a sprawling web of live wires and lightning rods suspended above a long-abandoned mine, now re-purposed for her needs. The ores gleaned from this mine fund the capture of more slaves, and see to it that her private dwelling is finely furnished. Progress on her compound is impeded only by the occasional unruly slave, and the frequent sandstorms that terrorize the region. Tiamat cares for very little in the world, aside from the furtherance of her own power. She takes a sick pleasure in the degradation of other dragons, relishing their subservience and idolatry. She takes mates as she pleases, and discards them in kind; her favorite of favorites is a Tundra whose name she does not care to learn, for she only calls him her Dancer. Recently, however, the empress's control has slipped. It has slipped by only a matter of inches, but it has rattled her all the same. In an unprecedented display of determination, her favorite escaped out into a brewing sandstorm, and despite her servants giving chase, he could not be tracked down. This loss aggravates her deeply, and she has tightened the leash on her remaining dragons, permitting their guards to make use of crueler punishments for minor slights. She has claimed a new mate, in the absence of her Dancer. This one is lavished with pleasant attention and cruelty in equal measure, and is not permitted to stray from Tiamat's personal den within the canyon. |
