An upcoming knight-in-training, under the tutelage of Asoka. Has one of those sort-of-not-quite-betrothed stories you read about in fairy tales and romance novels with Annastasia, with he as her noble, honorable knight-in-training. From childhood they were pretty much expected to eventually fall in love. The two are very close friends and are always exploring something new.
Matthias is humble, quiet, mannered, and polite; almost meek sometimes in his bright-eyed submissiveness. He has a great curiosity for thing but also expresses them in more quiet ways, while Annastasia tends to be more ladylike and regal, more immersed in her studies and bolder. Matthias remains fully in love with her all the same, if not all the more for it.
