This wasn't good. Wispwillow was late in meeting The Shadowbinder once again. She could imagine her soulless, dripping eyes piercing hers, and her claws scraping the ground in irritation. Wispwillow glided over The Tangled Wood, and landed in the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. Shadowbinder was waiting, Her muck-filled claws tapped the stone ground. She snorted in anger when Wispwillow came up to her. Shadowbinder knew she was late again, and deserved a punishment.
After her meeting, Shadowbinder's words rang in her head, Go find a Shadow clan worthy for you to look after. You will not be allowed to return before you find one. I don't care how long it takes you. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or 20 years. If you do return before you find one, I will turn you into one of my minions for good, or worse. This stressed Wispwillow out. She searched for a week with no luck. It was almost the end of winter, and she knew most dragons weren't out. One early morning, when the woods were alive, she saw a strange patrol of dragons. They were very dark in color, and Wispwillow panicked, thinking she was being hunted down by Shadowbinder's minions. She ran, but the patrol saw her, and caught up. There was a quiet, frowning mirror, she guessed the leader, with her crown of bones and antlers. Then, there was a speckled, snarling nocturne with gleaming iron armor, a purple nocturne hidden under a birdskull, another nocturne who was green, and a brown female tundra with a battered hat. They circled her and realized she wasn't prey, so they welcomed her back to their clan to rest. After all, Wispwillow had traveled at least a week to find a clan. After she settled, shivering, in the Crowtalon clan's cave, she realized this was the clan. Raven, the mirror from before, was delighted about having an ambassador, but she was scared. Some of the dragons in the clan were 'outlaws' for The Shadowbinder. They came here and turned their lives around. Wispwillow promised to keep those dragons a secret, and gives her monthly report to Shadowbinder without them included. Wispwillow enjoys her life here better than her life with The Shadowbinder. Now, Shadowbinder's new words ring in her head, You have found a clan who needs you. Every month report to me. You have done well, Wispwillow. I allow you to go live with them. You are free of my reign. Wispwillow's path through The Tangled Wood to meet The Shadowbinder |
