It was cold. Freezing cold, glacial even. She shuddered, but shoved with her claws. This time, a crack came through the crystal. She pushed harder this time, pushing as hard as she could.
The egg finally split open, and she tumbled out, a mess of limbs and tail. A multitude of faces loomed over her, and her hazy four eyes tried to take note of all of them, but she was just so tired...
Then sleep claimed her.
She awoke, and clambered out of the icy hole and into the main lair, where all of the adult dragons were avidly discussing her. The newest baby Mirror, a beauty with her greys and blues, both in contrast with pure white eyes.
She clambered to the leader, and asked the question that haunted her for the rest of her life: "Mama? Papa?"
Weeks passed after that debacle, and she had been cast out from the clan, and forced to search for another one. It wasn't like she needed one though, as she was perfectly capable of hunting by herself.
But the pack mentality rang in her head everyday, and so she searched for a clan.
One day, she met another dragon, an odd sight to see wearing bright blue clothes and antlers. When the dragon - a Nocturne - saw her, her jaw dropped.
She joined the dragon's clan - not all that willingly, the dragon was surprisingly insistent - and garnered the same reactions from the clan members at her appearance.
They left the antlered dragon to explain to her. When she turned around in surprise, the other dragon was taking her clothes off. She made to protest, but then she caught sight of a black spot on her wing previously obstructed by the clothing, and kept her mouth shut.
When the dragon stopped, her jaw dropped in surprise. The dragon looked exactly like her - the same greys and blues and swirling patterns marked her body.
The dragon - Sadim, her name was - sat her down and explained it to her. She came from an egg, too and apparently had no parents either. The coincidence was too great - they were clearly related.
Then started the adorning. Sadim liked to explore, and when she came back with new pieces of apparel, she started to adorn her sister with it. Vadim never needed to ask why; she understood her sister's reasoning.
The feeling of belonging, and of finding her sister warmed her heart, making her forget the cold days in the egg, the cold lair and loneliness when she was kicked out.
She only hoped it lasted forever.
She should have known it was almost too good to be true.
It had been a clear day in the Sunbeam Ruins. The two had been exploring, and she had managed to unearth a scroll case in the ground. The contents had been intact, and she, ever the curious one, had immediately tried to read the odd scroll.
She should never have done that. Upon contact with her claws, the scroll glowed, and a sharp pain shot through her body.
Then a painful sound radiated through the air. As the magic worked on her body, she hazily realized it was her. She felt her body forcefully elongate, along with her legs. An odd feeling, like hair or fur was felt along the length of her body. Her snout grew longer, and she felt it grow thinner. Her wings shifted position as well, and her cry continued.
Finally, after what seemed eons, it was over, and she felt herself being supported by her now much shorter sister.
It wasn't much of a surprise to find out it was enchanted, and that she would probably never be able to revert to her previous form again, but that was fine. She would be able to adapt, so long as her twin sister was by her side.
It was just way too bad she couldn't hide that well in the ruins now.
