Owner of the Divide, the Schism's best lodging, Clocks is known for her hospitality and shyness. But, since one of those affects the guests much more than the other, no one inquires into the reason for her behavior, leaving her just as unnoticed as she prefers to be. Besides, most of the guests are just stopping by, often too busy with the business they came to accomplish to notice more than the plans hung on the wall, proving how she designed the Divide herself, as well as most of the houses surrounding it. Clocks is thankful that she does receive complements on the hotel's design -"modern, yet comfortable and luxurious" in the words of her best reviewers- as she's very proud of her work, but would never say so for fear of appearing rude, but she wishes someone would want to know more. Even some of Clocks' closest confidants only know that much about her (her shyness, friendliness, creativity, and humility), and only one, though Clocks will not say who, can claim to know the truth- that her shyness is faked, or that she forces herself to hide out of embarrassment. Once that is known, the other pieces fall into place. Her understated appearance? A cover. Her solitary behavior? A way to slip unnoticed. And the fact that everything at the Divide seems to be going smoothly? Clocks is doing everything in her power to keep something from going wrong. Her biggest fear is the fact that she's responsible for every one of the dragons inside her building, and that any accidents or disasters would be all her fault. Time and time again Clocks has been told that everything's fine. But is it?
It's a bottomless pit of worry once she goes down that path. If any of the guests saw into her office, they'd see that, though everything was already in perfect order, Clocks has sorted it yet again by a different system. Or maybe they've seen her whisper to herself whenever she hears any words related to catastrophe- "fire", "collapse", "disaster". Clocks knows that her habits aren't normal, but she's trying her very best to keep them under control, though when she's nervous, it's as if she's starting the process all over again. But, she trusts in her knowledge that the Divide and all of her creations are designed as safely as possible, and not one dragon that had met Clocks would say that they could be in more responsible hands.
