He does not know the face of his father. He does not know his father. At first, there was a noblewoman who claimed Nobutora as her son, though he could see the disdain in her eyes. Younger than was right, Nobutora learned to tolerate; his appearance was twisted, they said, and he held his head high despite jabs and jeers against him. He would not bow to those who mocked him, he told himself in the mirror each night, he would not.

But of course, his mother did not love him, and Nobutora chafed at this. Flicking through her ledgers (for what noblewoman did not have a series of deals noted in a secret journal), he discovered a horrifying truth. A sister he'd never had the chance to know, sold in chains.

Nobutora reeled and lashed out and was cast out for his trouble.

The Golden Prince, they call him now, but he was not golden when Lucius Klauesson found him in the dirt. Nobutora follows him forever, now, wearing Klauesson colors and gleefully standing in battle alongside the Prince who Promised the world.

So it goes. Nobutora stands with his sword, gilded in the sun, waiting to avenge the sister he never met, waiting to make his mentor proud, waiting, always waiting. A lecherous man, the flirtatious smiles hide a vicious snake beneath, and Nobutora is more than he looks to be. The confidence that Nobutora radiates hides the self-doubt beneath, and hides much more than that. Ultimately the Golden Prince is a man of many secrets, all hidden beneath a bright-toothed smile.
