Jem

Of the three brothers, Jem's always gotten the most attention. Part of it was that he hatched slightly before his brothers, and another part is the brilliant blue of his wings, he thinks, but he's always been treated more like a pretty ornament than a dragon. His father and mother show him off to the other dragons they meet, the other hatchlings in his clan watch in amazement when he does anything but never ask if they can play with him, the adults in the clan smile adoringly at him from afar. Whenever anyone has anything to say to him, it's usually about how he's stunning, how he should be happy he has such pretty scales and wings. Jem wishes he wasn't so pretty. He longs to have the bond Jey has with their mother, or the ability to do things unnoticed like Jel. He wishes people would stop staring at him in the tunnels, wishes hw could do one thing without being told how amazing he is. He wishes he could go off and fight and defend his clan without being told it might ruin his beauty, that he should stay home where it's safe.
