Yosuke

Energetic, playful and loyal, Yosuke is able to brighten anyone's day. Although he is a Nature dragon, he possesses strong Wind magic as well as a weakness to Lightning even though Wind is normally weak to Shadow and Light. Why this is anyone's guess, as the Viridian Labyrinth and Windswept Plateau are too far away for a dragon to be born on the borders between both regions. The unusual weakness is also a mystery. Naturally, he hates storms but his dorky likability ensures that there's always a friend nearby to comfort him.

He may come off as brash and immature, but a good amount of that is for show. Unfortunately, for all the confidence he seems to have, it's really a façade he puts up in order to "fit in" better. The wiser dragons of the lair, like Greninja, are helping him overcome this intense fear of being different.

Yosuke often wanders to the Zephyr Steppes. His strange Wind magic despite his Nature birth always draws him to the vast cliffs and mesas of the Steppes. He enjoys the strong winds that make flying a (pun-intended) breeze! The culture of carefree exploration isn't that bad, either. Almost always he travels with his partner Souji. They are practically inseparable and it leads some to wonder... what exactly does Yosuke mean when he calls Souji "partner?"

Regardless, today is one such day when they travel together. While lazily gliding low above the Reedcrest Ascent, Yosuke's keen eyes spot something unusual.

"Hey, I've never seen a flower like that before!"

"Hm? What could that be?"

They land to get a closer look. It seems similar to a lily except for it having five petals instead of six. Lilies always have petals in multiples of three and it's clear that there isn't a petal missing. There's no scar or gap where one would have come from and there's a small patch of all them looking exactly the same.

"Strange, a lily minus a petal?"

"We should show this to Serperior!"

"If he's not napping, though. By the time we get back he'll probably be sunbathing with his snakes."

"Well then we'll just have to go extra fast to outrun the sunning rock!"

Souji shakes his head but figures it's not worth arguing right now. Serperior will do all the chewing out for him.

They rush back home to the Ashfall Waste, carefully cradling the plant that they had dug up and placed in a temporary pot made of fabric.

"Serperior! We found a weird lily on the Reedcleft Ascent!"

Serperior, given a nasty wake-up from his afternoon nap, gives a glare as his answer.

"Oh uh... sorry...?"

"Gimmeh dat..."

His voice is slurred and clearly sleepy but the prospect of a rare plant is just interesting enough to earn his attention. He continues to glare at Yosuke who sheepishly rubs his head. Souji, meanwhile, has an "I told you so" look. As he gets a closer look, Serperior blinks a few times to get the sleep out of his eyes and then his crest stands up straight.

"Could it be?"

Without any further explanation, he abandons the sunning rock and darts off into the satellite lair he lives in with other Fire-sensitive dragons. Souji and Yosuke follow with the plant and spot him frantically searching through his botany library.

"No... no... no... Ah! There it is!"

Excitedly flipping through the pages he comes across a picture of the plant. Now fully awake, he points to the picture and trills happily.

"A Wind of Life flower! They are native to the Windswept Plateau and once were quite common but have gotten rare from overharvest the past few generations! They're supposed to have excellent healing properties! I have to find Bryophyta and Rachel Carson and create a special greenhouse to propigate it immediately!"

Snatching the plant right out of Yosuke's claws, Serperior once again dashes off deeper into the lair to find the two druids of the clan. Even the lightning-quick reactions of a Spiral were no match for his excitement and so Yosuke is left bewildered and grasping the air.

"That was something. Have you ever seen Serperior move that fast?"

"No, never. This must be something very important to get him that excited. Good eye, partner!"

"Thanks, partner!"
