Red, red, red. The color of blood. That’s all he could see. All the cursed disease made him see. His claws were stained red from his victim’s, yet he couldn’t remember their names. Much less their faces.

Anger. Boiling hot red anger. Red. The virus was spreading more. What was his name? Where did he come from? The angry, red virus said none of that matter. There was nothing left of him, it was only the virus. The red, angry virus.

A light. A beautiful green light in the midst of the red. Was this hope? Was this death? Or was it a trick the virus played on the remainder of his mind? The light grew brighter still, replacing the red anger with a calming green. As he felt the virus draw away, he remembered everything and welcomed the beautiful green light.

Mortem, infected by virus “Cobra” has always been avoided by dragons and animals alike. Few dragons are comfortable being near him, even less are willing to speak to him. When the virus ran rampant in him, controlling him and infecting him with aggressive urges his mate, Amorra, used a powerful nature spell to seal it away. Amorra used so much of her power to seal the curse-like virus away that now Mortem rarely feels aggressive.

Gentle-hearted and kind, Mortem is the clan’s mortician and takes care of all of the dead. He cremates the bodies of once-living dragons and stores them in intricate urns that show the beauty of the dragon those ashes once were. Mortem protects all of the urns and stores them all in his lair so if no one else remembers them, at least he will. Despite his role in the clan, he is not brought down by nor does he fear death. He understands that it is the inevitable, but he doesn’t live in fear of when it may happen. In fact, Mortem worries more about what may happen to Amorra or Warden rather than himself.

On peaceful days, Mortem is often seen speaking in sign language with Warden or sitting with his mate. Other than rot-ridden beastclan familiars, the only other animal seen around him is a beautiful, white, peaceful dove often seen resting on his horns. Mortem cherishes the bird’s company, knowing that if something so beautiful and naive can learn love him that other dragons can learn too.

Overall, Mortem is soft-spoken and shy not wanting to be the center of attention, whether it be negative or positive. While he does want dragons to no longer look at him as if he is some monster, he doesn’t want dragons to constantly be frollicing to him with attention. Despite the deadly, bloody,virus that lurks inside him, his preferred color is red to match his wings and body color, and perhaps even to act in spite of the disease.
