There were only two eggs in The 9th's nest, his brother emerging victoriously from cracking open his shell just moments before The 9th could. It didn't matter much, because The 9th was destined to be the 9th hatchling, just as The 8th was destined to be the 8th. The 8th watched his brother arrive from the depths of his shell in silence. 4 days passed, and The 8th was gone, presumably taken to some place, though The 9th knew not where. Then an hour passed, and The 9th was leaving, presumably being taken to a similar but entirely different place from The 8th. That's when he arrived in the Auction House, in an old, empty papaya crate labeled '1 gem' in blue paint on the side. He was picked up by a passing child as she was stowed away by a big blue dragon. Her name was Vanilla, and she looked much more expensive than he did. Her scales and fur were sleek and shiny and her violet eyes were bright, obvious indicators of an aristocratic upbringing. The big blue dragon stretched his neck down, tossed a blue object into the crate, and continued onward. Thus, The 8th found himself being dragged away by a rich white Imperial and an indifferent blue Coatl. Vanilla did not speak much to him because of the language barrier between Imperials and Nocturnes, but she was always carrying him around like a teddy bear. Being almost three times his size had its perks. The two kept this quiet relationship even after The 8th picked up on common Draconic and was able to fight past the language barrier, since both dragons didn't have much to say to each other. Thus the two dragons who have been friends since they were little know next to nothing about one another beyond their respective names and how they arrived in the Hold. |
