Biography
Sunrise
The Peaceful Gardener
The Story So Far!
Child of flowers and daughter of the Dawn and Sunset, Sunrise always dreamed of the horizon. Now she has set out to find what lies beyond it. Her first stop brought her to the clan that referred to themselves as the Illusory Gust. Well, at least one member did. She seemed to be the most creative, and possibly a lore keeper of sorts. While there, she learned to truly enjoy the wind up against her face and beneath her wings, realizing that the gift of flight is something that should not be taken lightly or for granted. She set off from the clan with a new understanding of life's basics and an appreciation for the simple things.
As Sunrise passed over the Currents, she decided to drop by her home. The old leader, tho she'd stepped down as head of the clan, was still there to welcome Sunrise back and listen to her tales of the Plateau. Even Shujaat indulged the imperial as he prepared to set out for another clan. Much was still changing around her home, and it made Sunrise's heart ache for times past. She missed her mother, long since gone to serve the deities, and her father, now living in another lair. But a few familiar faces still remained and she took joy in their company. More still lie beyond the horizon and so, after a few days, she set out once more.
Finding Home
She found herself again in the lands of the wind, soaring joyfully over waving bamboo and smelling the sweetness of the air. Beginning to tire she spiraled down to a clearing, alighting amoung the waving reeds. The scent of other dragons lingered in the air and her brow furrowed in worry. Without knowing who resided here it would probably be best to move along quickly.
A soft hum, first thought to be just the wind in the bamboo reached her ears and she listened for a moment before she realized it was chanting of a sort. Curiosity overcame her and she followed the sound from the bamboo into the forest proper until she reached a perfectly circular clearing into which the sunlight streamed. Haloed in that shaft of light a coatl, standing so still he could have been a statue but for the subtle movement of his throat. The chanting was coming from him as he faced towards the opening in the trees, eyes closed blissfully as the sun streamed down upon him.
Sunrise stared, transfixed at this figure, captured in a beam of light so beautifully that no artist could do it justice on canvas. A small intake of breath from her broke the spell and just as he moved to look the shaft of light shifted as well, almost as if by his command.
"Who's there..." His voice was deep and gentle as he peered into the shadows she'd hidden in to watch his prayer.
"I'm...uh...sorry to interrupt..." she managed. "I'm a traveler..passing through..." Slowly, defenses high, she moved into the light.
Without the sun's powerful wash of gold upon him she was surprised to see that the coatl was of similar colours to her with wings like a sunset and scales like the ocean. She was also surprised to see that he was clearly blind. He smiled politely and gave a bow. "Travelers are welcome here, we're a peaceful bunch. I'm Sunsinger, the sunpriest of this clan. Would you like to rest awhile with us? I can introduce you to our matriarch."
Sunrise didn't know what to say so she merely nodded before remembering that being blind, he could not see the gesture. With little grace she covered her sudden chagrine by blurting "My name is Sunrise!"
His smile warmed her from the inside out and she felt herself blush a bit. "Hello Sunrise, I hope you'll enjoy your time here. The sun was calling to me, telling me that something important was going to happen in my life today. Perhaps meeting you is that thing." He chuckled as he picked a hood up from the ground and slipped it on, the silk sliding across and covering his eyes.
Many moons later Sunrise would look back on that day with a warm glow in her soul as she looked over to the sleeping sunpriest at her side and watched her hatchlings play from their position on a day warmed stone. While she'd always miss and love her family back in the old clan, she knew she could visit when she wished and now...this was home.
