Henhowl's egg was purchased off of a Longneck merchant by a Fae mage named Akaura. Akaura hatched and raised the young Tundra with the same absentminded half-care that she did all of her tasks. In fact, Henhowl's hatching completely surprised the mage, as she had purchased the egg with the belief that it was a spell-stone, and had no notion at all that it was, in fact, a baby dragon. Once it became clear that the stone that had been meant to absorb excess magical energies had hatched a small little fluffball, Akaura goodnaturedly saddled her new duties and proceeded to give little Henhowl as proper an education as she could manage.

Akaura was greatly interested in scrolls and the changing and transmutation of dragonkind. However, the Fae was quite infamous for starting a working and not completing it, leaving all sorts of mischief the chance to sprout in its wake. Henhowl became adept at thwarting magical calamities, until the day she herself became a casualty of them. Akaura, preoccupied with a scroll, forgot that she had summoned her adoptive daughter to fetch her more tea. As Akaura read the last words of the scroll she had been perusing out loud, she found to her mild surprise that her daughter was now considerably larger and less furry, and also a Skydancer.

Henhowl, for her part, marveled at the new strength and size she now possessed. She was amazed at how maneuverable she was in the air, and how powerful she felt. As well, she became extremely attuned to the energies that swirled around her adoptive mother in a heavy cloud. It was a bit much to take in all at once, and the newly minted Skydancer had no precedent for the things she was feeling. Frightened and overwhelmed, seeking to rid herself of the strange pulls and garblings of her new awareness, she fled.

Her heedless flight from her home was a rather dangerous move on her part. She could organize magical compendiums and read at a scholar's level, but could no more hunt or fend for herself than she would have been able to fresh from the egg. Finding herself in the Viridian Labyrinth, it was a mercifully short time before a clan territory patrol found her. Luckily, the clan was one which welcomed newcomers, so long as they pulled their weight and contributed. Henhowl found that physical activity kept the frightening, unknown things she was now able to sense at bay, and thusly devoted herself to exhaustive combat training. Being able to lead territory patrols keeps her away from the mages of the home clan, and being ever vigilant keeps her from coming back to dwell on the guilt of leaving Akaura behind with no notion of where she might have gone.
