==== ABOUT ====
Unlike the other Exiles, Arabella was born inside the clan, under Spanx's watchful eye. She was raised under the unnamed prophet's wing, hidden away from the greater horrors of the clan. But she felt it, she could smell it in the magic around her, and over time she met the mages and guardians of the clan: Charlemagne, Mamoru, even Dune.
But Arabella's people are Blair and Osake. Together, they plan a better future. Though they don't know each other yet, Arabella introduces Dune and his council to some of the exiles' plots. Someday soon, when it's safe, they'll come together and the clan will be whole.
==== ARABELLA'S STORY ====
Arabella was found in a Lightning egg, an object of enough curiosity to Spanx that she kept it to herself as a personal trinket. She never really had any intention of hatching it, even as her clan changed around her.
But then, one afternoon, the unnamed mage let herself into Spanx's private quarters, much to her displeasure. Worse yet, the mage demanded the egg, which she had no business even knowing about anyways, the weirdo. But she persisted.
"There's magic about today-- the pure kind, not whatever you cook up. Something from outside, and strong too."
Normally, Spanx liked to think that she'd dismiss any dragon with that much disrespect for authority! But remember, this mage can see the future. More than that, she's got some of the strongest wielding power in the Wood. So if there really IS that much ambient magic, oh man, you better just do as she says. So Spanx let her see the egg. More than see it. She let her touch it, pick it up-- do eggs get fingerprints?
The mage turned to Spanx again, the egg resting firmly in her hands.
"I'm not going to be around here much longer," the mage confided.
Spanx was a little taken aback. The mage continued, talking, it seemed, more to the egg that anyone else.
"In the clan, I mean. My time's come for me move on-- you need me, but I don't belong here. I'm not like you."
She looked at Spanx deviously, cradling the egg, hoping Spanx caught her drift. Spanx, ever stubborn and mildly wounded at the apparent loss of her egg and mage, did not.
"Spanx!" the mage insisted, shaking the egg. "We're going to hatch this!"
"Don't drop that," Spanx said, rather helpless.
Anyways, what came out was a forest spirit. The mage was quite sure; Spanx was spiteful of anything she said. "It's the day, it's the ambient magic."
"It's a green Fae."
"She. You don't know what I know," the mage said, at least a little pleased at her ability to trump the unstoppable Spanx, if only for the time being. She scooped the tiny, wet hatchling into her arms.
The unnamed mage took it upon herself to raise the hatchling. She was in many ways a peculiar hatcling-- quiet, for one, and with a lot of habits that were inconsistent with a growing dragon. For one, she was clearly developing from a Fae to a Pearlcatcher as she grew. The mage couldn't help but wonder if she really was a spirit of the forest-- she was bright, friendly and energetic, but she had a cool clarity totally obscure to most dragons, especially those in Zero, in spite of her abnormalities. There was massive magical potential, the only question was how much she already knew about.
Much to the displeasure of the greater part of the clan, the mage didn't name the hatchling. Her reasons were not the same as the ones for not naming herself-- by not naming herself, she was refusing to make a commodity of her forecasting powers, but, she said, only that hatchling could give herself the proper name. "She's not my hatchling, but she is my undertaking-- it's not for me to make the most defining decision of her life." Easy for her to say, not having a name.
But the real reason was that there was a possibility the hatchling really was some other entity. Something, perhaps, that ascended what they knew of names-- the mage didn't want to alter that entity or its power.
This dragon was fast friends with the other two orphans that arrived that day-- but that's another story.
