Jester is a prankster and a joker through and through. No matter what environment he's in, he will always make a joke, even if it risks starting a war with another clan. He has a bit of a competition with Melahin as to who can be the more mischievous dragon. Jester is fascinated by Vadok because she doesn't laugh at any of his jokes or pranks. Vadok is disgusted by how Jester can make light of any situation and Jester is surprised how a dragon refuses to laugh.

When he does some prying, she angrily admits she doesn't laugh because she doesn't find life funny. Her mother is a vain, self-absorbed dragon who pushes her daughter to become a champion fighter so she can sit in luxury and do nothing but talk politics and her father is struggling to find his charge and keep his family from fighting.

Jester is saddened by this and does everything he can to get Vadok to smile. He nuzzles her, brings her her favorite foods, draws silly drawings on the walls, sings silly songs, and pokes fun at any dragon who says a mean thing to Vadok. This doesn't just get Vadok to smile, but to also see how deep this goofy dragon can be and that the joking and pranking is to keep from going insane from the stress of life. She eventually falls for him even though her mother is outraged, wanting her to marry a warrior, not a jester.
