% The Faded Lightning Augustine has a patient smile on his face, Kindled can be heard across the way shouting something or other about the banners. You note that one Augustine's banner is the symbol for the wind flight but he's clearly lightning. Perhaps some printing mistake? "Ah I see you've noticed, it was my mistake, I was up very late making these...and sadly I sort of ruined it;" he said and fiddled with his pearl rolling it back and forth between his hands. You ask if that's why the other pearlcatcher is shouting so much. He gives a sigh. "I wanted to surprise Kindled, it's sort of our anniversary of doing this show together, and we've never had the fancy banners like the rest of the troupe; so I wanted to make up a pair. I guess this is why you don't stay up late finishing work..." You ask if things will be alright. "Perfectly fine, Kindled's pretty fiery, but I'm used to his boisterous side, under it he's very sweet and he'll calm down over time. I work extra hard to make sure he doesn't have too much to worry about." He was from Lightning flight after all. You wonder about the show. "It must go on and it will; you'd be sorry if you missed it, fire soaring through the air...pearlcatchers tossing their pearls. Truly not a sight to be missed." He flicked his tufted tail back and forth. You tell him you'll be excited to see it.

Augustine starts life as an egg, as most dragons do, though his is not laid by any parent. It's an egg left by the Lightning God himself. Lonesome for a while, the egg finds it's way into the hands of a Circus troupe. They are rather surprised when out pops a Pearlcatcher hatchling, how unlikely! Shouldn't it be a Ridgeback? Either way the troupe welcomes in their youngest member. He quickly takes to the jugglers and trapeze artists though one might say being a trapeze dragon is far less dangerous than if one didn't have wings. He found his calling as he learned how to juggle proficiently, he was doing shows as the youngest fire juggler the troupe had ever had. Eventually he moved on to knives, and all sorts of dangerous things, he was really a talent and loved to practice the art. But he wasn't to stay with the group, rather he bumped into someone rather special. He'd only briefly caught the image of another Pearlcatcher out of the corner of his eye, in colors that were like his own only far more saturated. They were about the same age too! If only by judging the pearl sizes against each other. He had sidled on over, and found out the other dragon's name was Kindled. What an appropriate name, since he looked a lot like a fire being kept nice and hot. "So...you juggle?" Kindled had asked. "Yes, wanna see?" Augustine had replied. And the two were quickly sharing stories while Augustine taught Kindled the basics of juggling. He told Kindled about the incredible places he'd been, the wondrous dragons he'd met. The Circus had traveled many of the Elemental realms, from the Windsingers domain and down to the frosty Icewarden's lairs; Kindled lapped it up, and Augustine listened to his tails of the strange lair the wind dragon had been born to. The two were inseparable during the whole time the Circus visited, but...soon the circus would be moving on and Augustine felt like he'd be ripped apart should he have to leave his new friend behind. He spoke with the owner, and his adopted family, ready to beg for them to let him stay. He was taken aback by the support for his decision. They had seen the way the two had gotten along, they could see in his eyes and hear in his voice that this was exactly where he needed to be. A great big hug, and kisses for mom, as he packed his things up, he conspired with the Clan Leaders, everything was set. The circus left and he saw the mourning Kindled deflated, such an awful thing to see. Augustine made a pact with himself, he'd never let Kindled look that way again, and made himself known; Surprise! "B-but the circus..." the bright orange catcher cried. "I decided I really wanted to hear more about your monsters...and well, I couldn't just leave my student! You'll be an expert in Juggling like me someday...if you put in the work." They had a laugh, Kindled on the verge of happy tears. They'd disappear into the lair and have been together since. |
