Apparently I decided that Nobody and Heartless are actually conceptually similar to what their Kingdom Hearts counterparts are at their core; vestiges of the consciousness of formerly living beings given a semi-corporeal form by magical and not entirely explicable means. Nobody was in fact the result of experimentation by an undefined dragon of Arcane origins (hence the arcane energies displayed in his accent that help him hold his form). Heartless's form is well enough defined to identify what she is but it's slightly less... solid than Nobody's, and sort of... foggy? Somehow in the ensuing chaos her body was more or less disintegrated but her spirit absorbed the light and shadow magic and uses it to manifest something that at least resembles her original form.
The result is basically that they're both beings who are imperial shaped masses of roiling elemental mana, and they basically 'eat' the mana of other dragons, whether as spells directly or straight from the dragons themselves. Sort of... energy vampires? They can co-exist with a group of dragons if handled properly but I doubt there's many dragons that would be all that willing -to- try and deal with them.
The result is basically that they're both beings who are imperial shaped masses of roiling elemental mana, and they basically 'eat' the mana of other dragons, whether as spells directly or straight from the dragons themselves.
