Lineage

Biography

As the son of two strong magic users, Merlyn grew up with only the best tutors. Merlin was a quick study and quickly gained mastery over the lower cantrips and was quite adept at prestidigitation. Although he had everything set out before him he never picked up the focus and discipline necessary for the higher forms of magic. This was quite ok for him. He had taken a liking to using his magics for tricks and pranks and was always causing some mischief.

After a time his tutors left and his highly regimented parents sent him out to the world in the hopes that the harsh world would force him to straighten up. This was a good plan and as he set out in the world he quickly found life was not all fun and games for a solo dragon. He had difficulty finding food and he had never learned the magics necessary to find him food or to summon his own.

In his sink or swim desperation, he sought out one of his favorite tutors. His tutor took him in and began the lessons once more. Before long Merlyn could find food and water and could even change it as he see fit. He was a master of Alteration of the physical world and was ready for the world.

One day while he was wandering the woods he saw a creature that took his breath away. The dragon Vitas was a sight to be seen. Her white fur perfectly contrasted her wings of spring. He did not know what to do. No dragon had ever made him feel this way. He decided that she must be his mate and he would not rest until it was done.
He didn't know how to start however. He decided to go with his old failsafe. Laughter would garauntee her love. He followed her as silently as possible. As she stopped to enjoy a rose bush he began.

Before her eyes the roses began to shift in hues from red to purple and blue, running through all the colors of rainbow and finally resting at white. However, she did not laugh. She panicked. She had never had this happen before and it frightened her, so she ran.

This was not right, his tricks were meant to please and delight. Not to frighten. He panicked at the thought of loosing this dragons affection and immediately did the only thing he could think. He began to cast a spell. He wanted to close the forest paths and keep her near so he could explain himself. Stop her from running. Now.

As he began to chant the words to the spell the wind began to blow in a slight breeze. The trees however did not move. He continued the spell now with even more vigor. He cold not let her escape. A startled yelp could be heard in her direction. The spell must be working. With his eyes tightly closed in concentration he continued. A warmth could be felt and a bright light could be seen through his eye lids.
Something was wrong, what had he done? He stopped his spell immediately. If only he had been more of a disciplined study, this would not have happened.

He rushed out of the brush to find his love. As he emerged from the brush he found his error. His lovely tundra beauty had been tranformed into something new. Her flowing white mane was gone and replaced with glistening alabaster scales. Her beauty was still there and He begged for forgiveness and layed low in bow.

The next sound he heard was not as expected. It started as a gliggle, then a chuckle, and finally a jubilant holler and laughter. She was dancing about and rolling on the forest floor. Confused, he stood up from his bow and watched her dance. She leaped towards him and did her best to thank him. She was still fresh in her new form and her attempt at affection was more like a bull ramming his victim and they both fell to the ground.

He has succeeded in his goal and had won the heart of this wonderful dragon. He would stay by her side for all time and follow her where ever she may go.

Merlyn now lives with us as the master hunter/gatherer and can often be found using his cantrips and spells to delight anywho wished to watch.

--"The world can be a hard place to live. Cold winters and harsh storms can dampen any mood. These things however are only how you view them. It does not take a master of alteration to see the beauty in the snow or the majesty of a storm. One must only alter your perception and the world can become beautiful once more."
