Biography

Sytry
The Stargazer

Theme Song: -

"A little light in the night sky, so very far away... It makes you feel small at first, doesn't it?"

When he was young, Sytry liked to ask others what the stars were, just to see what kind of answer he got. An Earth dragon told him that the stars were the spirits of departed dragons, looking down at them from the sky. A Shadow dragon told him that they were heroes, monsters, and tricksters, pointing out their shapes and telling him their stories. A Water dragon told him that the movements of the stars predict the future and foretell the destinies of those born under them. An Arcane dragon told him that the stars were a distant prison, caging unimaginable horrors behind bars of cold light. A Light dragon told him that the stars were massive spheres of fire, far far away, and consuming themselves over a lifetime past the span of a hundred dragons, until they blazed in one last glorious display and then went dead and cold. In his mind, all of them were true, and the night sky seemed a strange and wondrous place. He would often stay out late, long past the time he was supposed to have gone to bed, to gaze up at them repeating their names and stories to himself.

Now that he's grown, his childhood love of the stars has grown with him, as has his knowledge. Sytry can tell you about each flight's star lore, what they believe they are, what they named them, and the stories they tell about them. But like he did when he was a child, he refuses to pick one particular explanation and follow that and only that. The night sky still holds its air of infinite wonder to him, so why shouldn't the stars be spirits, heroes, demons, and everburning fires?

Besides the lore and stories, Sytry keeps track of the locations and movements of the stars in Sornieth's sky. His own room is full of star maps, both of his own making and those plotted by others, in a jumbled mess only he can navigate. He also studies the moon's phases, old almanacs, histories, and journals of past stargazers, trying to predict the movements and celestial events that will happen by the ones that have already occurred. He enjoys sharing such sights with others, and informs the clan whenever there's to be an interesting happening in the night sky, from an eclipse, to a meteor shower, to a passing comet.

Although he seems dreamy and distracted when he's gazing up at the sky, Sytry is usually just extremely focused on his observations, and giving the minimum amount of attention to whoever or whatever is demanding it so that he doesn't have to turn his eyes earthwards again. In fact, any dragon who has his attention is subject to the same sort of full and complete attention usually only inflicted on the calm stars, which can be quite unnerving. He loves sharing his knowledge, and will happily do anything from draw up a dragon's horoscope (although he's more interested in calculating the exact positions of the stars they were born under than what they mean about them) to telling them stories about a particular constellation. His complete familiarity with the night skies around the clan's home has proven useful in more practical ways too. Nothing can sneak through them without attracting his attention, and he notices even the briefest shadow passing across a star.
