Knowledge of where Lanval came from has long been lost, for not even he remembers his earliest days of life. Many theorize he must have been from a clan on the border of the Sunbeam Ruins and the Tangled Wood, because that was where he was found as a hatchling. At first many didn't think much of it, but that strange borderland would later in his life manifest in an odd feature for him.

During a trip back towards the Sunbeam Ruins, Lanval had a strange encounter in the Tangled Woods he only half remembers of glowing eyes, sharp teeth, and musical laughter. When he awoke, the thorns that now cover his body began to grow out of him, but have otherwise not brought harm to him. The Magic Society is still investigating his weird visage, but for now he's able to continue his business as usual.

While he's lived in Clan Wicked Wings, Lanval became a member of the Merchant Class, and is particularly fond of selling items that he excavated for himself in the Sunbeam Ruins. It originally began as a way to feel connected to his homeland, but later discovered it was simply a practical area to conduct business for the clan.

He has also recently taken Herminde, a newer clan member, in as a mate. Before he had none,
but something about the scholarly Skydancer attracted him.
